That's actually not a bad idea! Only problem, if you want to call it that, is when we go to electric / efficient hybrid cars. Then what? If I have an electric car for example, I pay nothing and you pay for everything. If everyone has an electric car, nothing gets paid for. A more realistic approach would be for state motor vehicle departments to check the cars mileage once a year. Based on that mileage, your taxes are computed and the info is sent to your insurance company who charges you accordingly.

There are rumors out there that Nagra3 has already been hacked, though not confirmed to my knowledge. Back in the Nagra2 days, N2 had been hacked for years and it was a boon for pirates. Dish recently switched all it's channels to Nagra3 and pretty much overnight, all the pirates TV's went blank. Currently, the only 'solution' that exists for the pirates is via card sharing schemes where an actual subscriber(s) shares their card keys via an Internet Key Sharing (IKS) service. Though not technically a hack, IKS allows for the same capability. And so the cat and mouse continues.... Don't ask me how I know all this.

Comment Turbines en route (Score 4, Interesting) 414

I live is Southern AZ where Interstate 10 runs and a road which I am driving on often. Over the last few months I've noticed a steady flow of "oversize load"s on the freeway that contain rather large wind turbine components heading eastbound, presumably heading to TX from somewhere in CA. Perhaps these are Mr. Pickens, but who knows. Bottom line is there sure have been a lot of these steadily flowing through AZ...

Comment "Ask Slashdot": "safe" browsing in FF?? (Score 1) 174

I want to browse "safely"; protection against most XSS and sh1t like scripts reading my browser history, etc. However, I want the sites that I visit to "work" at the same time. Ya, NoScript is great, but with sites globally disallowed, the Internets are useless.

Can anyone offer some suggestions to reasonably lock down FF where a balance is struck between security and usability??
