Comment Bandaid Solutions are still Solutions (Score 4, Insightful) 88

The solution to stopping piracy, at least in Rivkin's eyes, is to prevent users from accessing piracy websites altogether.

Yes, clearly they'll be able to crack down a couple websites and that'll solve their profit issues!

People stopped pirating movies because Netflix and others provided better service for a reasonable cost. Now that streaming services are fracturing and getting more expensive, piracy is looking to be a more convenient option.

Like it or not, they need to compete with piracy, not play whack-a-mole with movie sites

Comment Re:The problem is Alexa sucks (Score 1) 28

The problem may be deeper than that. The entire endeavor may have been a waste of time because nobody really wants to have that level of automation in their lives, especially when the cost is invasion of privacy.

Alexa doesn't even provide automation, it provides voice interaction. The problem then is there are only so many thing people want to do using only their voice and no visual indication.

Turning lights on/off or setting timers are obvious examples of interacting with smart homes, but there's no money to be made in that.

It's a smart choice in theory to short since its value is plummeting, but with so many trying to make a buck off shorting it's not worth it for investors now.

The TDS folk bought the stock at the start that made it over inflated either for meming or they wanted to say they're in business with their savior. It was clearly an emotional investment (and one that hasn't paid off)

Well even though you're confused about how trans men and trans women exist, I'm sure you have lots of examples lined up for when a trans woman in the women's room assaulted another women in there right?

Nope, because that's a non-existent issue that the conservatives just clutch their pearls about.

Sounds like you really care too much about what other people are doing and should mind your own business rather than forcing your beliefs on them.

You never hear the other side of these idiotic arguments about bathrooms. Would you like a big hairy man going into the women's room because he was born with a vagina? Would you like a petite feminine looking woman going into the men's room because she was born with a penis? How many issues have there been with trans people going to the bathroom of their choice? Why do you care which bathroom someone goes into if there isn't an issue?

It's basically just a made up problem that Internet personalities like Joe Rogan can babble on about to trigger conservatives.

I rewatched the first 3 before the 4th came out and while the 2nd and 3rd aren't what the first was, they're not terrible movies. Then I watched the 4th and I have to agree with you. Almost stopped watching it just for how boring and repetitive it was, but it got slightly interesting when they covered some of the stuff about the new zion which kept me watching

Since sending these SMS messages is one of the largest costs for these services, this is a pretty clever cost savings.

Downside for user would spammers could use it to harvest active phone numbers, though frankly it's not that hard to get a list of active phone numbers these days without needing to slowly register more and more telegram accounts which would each need a new number.
