Comment I did this too (Score 1) 473

I didn't think to video it but one day when I was working from home I got a call from 'Microsoft' wanting to 'fix' my PC. oh boy, I was literally rubbing my hands together with glee as I fired up my test VM and let them in. The caller put me through to a 'technical' guy. They setup a remote session but then I pretended that they lost 5 years of email they put the phone down! Can't wait for them to call back. he he.

At first I thought I was reading an echo from the 1990s as I thought Ceefax was gone long ago. Ceefax as an information service has been copied into the digital format and works pretty much the same way i.e. you can enter 'page numbers' to go to the information needed directly and it's a lot better as it has different fonts and pictures. The old Ceefax had a similar look to Prestel and although fantastic resources in their day, have not had their day.

exactly. if you want to get fit then the Wii Fit is a means to an end therefore you would put effort in to the games. If you wanted to play around then just sit down and wave the controller around. It's not a question of the system let's you cheat but more of if the individual actually wants to get fit/lose weight. my gf and I have the wii plus fitboard and dance and we really get in to it. My heart-rate-monitor tells me I have increased heart-rate and am burning calories. Now get up off that couch and shake it baby.

DirectX 11 Coming To Browser Games 200

arcticstoat writes "Forget Farmville, Flash puzzlers and 8-bit home computer emulators. The next generation of browser games will be able to take advantage of DirectX 11 effects, not to mention multi-core processing and both Havok and PhysX physics effects. A new browser plug-in called WebVision will be available for Trinergy's new game engine, Vision Engine 8. This will enable game developers to port all the advanced effects from the game engine over to all the common browsers. Of course, any budding 3D-browser-game dev will face the problem that not every PC has a decent graphics card that can handle advanced graphics effects. Not only that, but limited bandwidth will also limit what effects a developer can realistically implement into a browser game. Nevertheless, this is an interesting development that could result in some tight 3D programming, as well as some much more interesting browser games."

Comment Sony PRS505 (Score 1) 684

I splashed out on a Sony PRS505 about 18 months ago and am very pleased with it. Yeah the menus can be sluggish but once you're into a book then it hardly matters. The most important factors were screen readability and eyestrain. I can read the Sony for hours and it's just the same as a physical book. Plus I've stuffed two complete Open University courses on an sdcard and so I can have them on-tap. Very cool. Yeah I know others are better/worse/different but the 505 suits my needs and that's all I'm worried about :-)
