A different barrel, or different gun? Might make sense just to buy another gun, since the barrels tend to be pretty expensive. My new Saiga is going to be my HD gun. 19" bbl., pistol grip, M4-style collapsible stock and a railed handguard. Oh, and it's semi-auto and takes 12 round mags or 20 round drums. :D

I love mine. I've got the 20 and 12 gauge versions of the 870 Express. So, what length bbl. did you get, is it a magnum receiver, are you going to trick it out, etc.?

Oh... And it's not American-made (it technically will be once I get done with the 922r compliance stuff), but I just got a Saiga 12, as well. :D

Of course if you are going to hunt with it make sure you are up on regs. When I hunt with my 870 I have a plug I have to put in the tube to limit how much ammo I can carry. I think this is pretty common in most states - so keep that in mind.

I think that's a federal migratory game bird law (2+1).

I can't look at those specific models right now, due to work filters, but my Dad likes his Mossbergs. I'm a Remington guy myself (I've got a couple of 870s). Comparing side by side I think both Mossbergs and Remingtons are about on par, quality and durability-wise. I do kind of like the placement of Mossbergs' safeties. They're on the top of the receiver and easy to disengage with your thumb without modifying your grip. Remington has a slider button on the trigger guard, which is easy to disengage, but also easy to forget to. The slide locks for the pump are in different locations on both, but the placement is equally annoying to me.

Speaking of shotties, it's not exactly one, but close. I recently got a Taurus Judge revolver (.45 Colt/.410 shotshell). It's a blast to shoot and a decent HD gun with .45's in it. I can't wait to try it out on the trap range just for kicks.
