CNET says that the PlayStation 3 is "the most unwanted console in recent memory" and asks "why is the PS3 so undesirable?" Focusing on the UK launch this month, the article ponders why it's so easy to get hold of a PS3 in the UK: "Right now, it's about as hard to get a PS3 for launch as it is an orange in California". CNET also questions Sony's wisdom in "emphasizing the 'power' of the PlayStation console over its games... inviting developers to neglect gameplay and invest heavily in these amazing graphics."

Checks and life insurance forms show that two women made millions from the deaths of two transient men they are accused of killing, a prosecutor said in a preliminary hearing Monday.
Helen Golay, 76, and Olga Rutterschmidt, 74, are accused of befriending the men, convincing them to sign the women's names on to their life insurance policies before drugging and running them over in secluded alleys.

PlanetQuake4.net has an interview with id Software's Marty Stratton and Steve Nix. In the interview they discuss engine licensing, console development, piracy, digital distribution, and QuakeCon.
Steve recently joined id Software after working as Ritual Entertainment's CEO. Marty has been with id Software for the last seven years as their Director of Business Development, but as recently taken on the role of Executive Producer.
Steve and Marty both recognized the growing importance of digital distribution, but have no plans of putting the publisher out of the equation any time soon. "The retail channel isn't going away," Marty said, and while a company such as id has the financial means to finance their own projects, they don't have the human resources to manage a retail relationship like a big publisher does. The publisher still adds a ton of value, especially in the marketing of games.
