Comment How about good transcription from videos? (Score 3, Insightful) 56

Videos are shit for learning. They are linear, they are not searchable, they communicate information slowly. The fact that many people use videos for learning unfortunately does not change that.
Make some good transcription software instead! There is so much good content in videos, that we'd all benefit a lot from a text-based form with figures or video excerpts when that form is suitable in certain cases.

Comment Focus will be on software (Score 1) 41

There are incremental hardware changes and MS won't take any risks with anything fancy, ala PS3. I bet the new system will focus on providing a profitable software model, which is inevitably going to be subscription/rental focussed. All this talk about backwards compatibility and game preservation sounds like marketing bull as usual, in my head it triggers imaginative combination of SaaS and older games.

Comment Choir / unison (Score 1) 73

Those researchers might also be surprised what makes a choir, or any instrument unison, sound great.
Also the second argument about percussion is very weak, as pitch is a secondary (at least) characteristic of percussion.
This is just clickbait bullshit "Pythagoras was wrong". What's next: newsflash that we don't prefer perfectly symmetrical or perfect faces?

Indeed, but the collective consumption of cocaine should be included in the state's business (unless you're fine with the drug dealer ecosystem of course). And given that the article is about AI sucking up power in a country that is fleeced on energy costs, well, it's the state who should do a good job identifying if there are any benefits and ... who they benefit.

Comment Re:Why care? (Score 0) 87

How do you become known? It's a chicken and egg problem. When you're still a nobody, how do you break through? You have to compete with nobodys and AIs now. Your competition is machines. You don't stand a chance.

Comment Re:push of a button (Score 1) 87

Photography was a new medium, that could exist in parallel with others. In the very digital world we live in, AI can consume any digital art. That takes quite a slice of the art pie. Physical-based arts will remain of course. I've seen people paint with onion skins and such, I'm sure these kind of arts are safe

Comment Re:Why care? (Score 1) 87

One might want to support humans doing arts in the traditional way (digital or not) rather than humans writing prompts. Should people not allowed the option? I agree on the result that art is art, but what I don't agree with is all the lies and deception because of lack of detection mechanisms.

Comment Signal to noise ratio - that's why (Score 3, Insightful) 87

If it becomes easy to flood website with AI-generated stuff, that you can only notice if you spend time and energy (bloody things do a good job), then creators that don't use AI are at a great disadvantage. Also, not having a good way to detect if something is made using AI or not, results in having to trust what people say (ha!). If, for whatever reason you choose to support people who don't use AI, well ... it becomes increasingly difficult to do so, because the AI-based creators can lie without repercussions.

Comment Re:You can boo all you like (Score 1) 65

I agree with the quality of Hollywood movies (there are brilliant and new movies outside). But, come on, you know the AI takeover is not going to stay there, and it's not just going to take over anything *you* consider useless and justified. The writing's on the wall, and the figureheads want to sugarcoat it. Also, it's super-redundant at this point as it has been said time and time again: "best" does not matter, "good enough" matters. At the point of good enough, mass replacement starts, because ... (drumroll) ... it's good enough!
