I remember the days of people complaining about Walmart. It seemed like nothing could stop them

Then out of nowhere Amazon arrived and is endangering Walmart. It's hard to drive anywhere now without seeing at least one Amazon delivery van. There will always be disruptors.

What France is doing is dumb af. I'm old enough to remember what a nightmare it was to find a book you needed for school. Going from B&N to Borders, etc in a quest to find the thing. And then in the end the only hope was to place an order at the store with a 4-8 week delivery. If they want to restrict their population's access to information, they get what they deserve.

And good jobs are *REALLY* easy to come by in Palo Alto and the surrounding environs.

Yeah, but affordable housing isn't easy to come by in Palo Alto. I say this as a Bay Area resident who would like to not pay about $1 million to live in some lower/middle class house with a homeless encampment a couple blocks away. And being able to go to a store without having to circle for 15-20 minutes looking for parking would be a nice touch.

Actually, they gave up the right to claim they have free speech. The government has admitted to meeting with Facebook about deciding what posts to censor. The Supreme Court has already decided that if a private company is acting as a government proxy, then they are required to obey the same rules as the government. Therefore they are not permitted to censor speech.

I know nothing about what security measure Dutch Ahold has taken. But if someone is dumb with security on Linux, there is no magic reason it can't be hacked. Example: maybe they allow a remote login for diagnostics, remote firmware update, etc. Employee finds the username/password hard to remember and stores it on another machine that gets hacked. Most hacking isn't some fancy shit like in the Matrix. Most of it is getting information from dumb people (social engineering.) Linux isn't defended from the dumbest person in the company.

From checking the article (apologies for everything I get wrong. I am in no way knowledgeable about this stuff.) All existing nuclear designs are old as hell (think about 50 years.) So this is an attempt to put to bear some more modern thoughts on the subject - including using the power of modern computing systems to help come up with more efficient/better designs. Other goals of the new design is to make it less costly, produce less hazardous waste, be safer. Overall the thinking is that the nuclear reactors will provide a way to supplement other more renewable energy sources that can't provide constant/steady streams of power (think solar - no power at night, bad weather, etc, wind - no power when the winds are low.)
