Comment Re: Two Minutes Vaxx (Score 1) 207

Brasil relied upon millions and millions of Covid-19 kits to try and stop the disease. This was before the vaccine. These kits of ivermectin and hydroxy chloroquine gave people a false sense of security since neither prevents spread of the disease or provides protection. Couldnâ(TM)t dig graves fast enough during that time.

Now with the vaccines, Brasil has been able to shut down morbidity and mortality. They are a vaccine happy country and have been able to quickly vaccinate some 95% of the eligible population.

Numbers tell the real story if people would listen.

I wouldnâ(TM)t equate that with insignificance.
If people around you are not dying then I suppose your experience of the disease and itâ(TM)s effect is different but donâ(TM)t diminish the experience of others who have experienced life altering loss.

Brasil has has been using millions upon millions of Covid-19 kits to combat the spread of the disease and those kits had Ivermectin and Hydroxy Chloroquine.

People thought they were protected but instead, Brasil has had one of the worst outbreaks of the disease in the entire world. The kits in fact ended up acceleration spread.

It seems that if Ivermectin was so effective, the devastation of the Brazilian population would not be so thorough.

I always am running into cheaters in Sea of Thieves. It is frustrating when people have Aim Bots and such and just sit on you for 20-30 minutes spawn killing you.
It is frustrating because they don't really need that to kill me because I am terrible to begin with, but I mostly play to blow off a bit of steam and just relax. Cheaters just ruin it because it makes people give up on the game and then it becomes less fun for everyone.
I just don't get the thrill of cheating. Cheaters didn't win anything in a game like sea of thieves where the experience of playing is mostly what it is about.

I love combat with people who are not cheating because it is makes combat more intense. With cheaters it makes combat pointless. It makes playing pointless.

That assertion that at least 50% of Americans are climate deniers is a bit of a stretch.
Most people believe that climate change is real.
Most people believe that it is man-made.

Where there has been an issue is that the propaganda against climate change has been very strong and large numbers of people believe there is no scientific consensus on the causes of climate change.
https://climatecommunication.y...

According to the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication Over time [2008-2020] 60-73% of Americans since Obama was elected believe climate change is happening.
48-60% believe it is human caused. 33-60% believe there is scientific consensus on climate change.

Opinions are fluid. Since Trump was elected all of these numbers have been 50% or above. At the end of the Trump administration in 2020 the beliefs that by the American public were at all time high.
73% - Climate Change is happening
60% - Climate Change is Human-caused
57% - There is Scientific Consensus on Climate Change.

I think the perceived problem of climate denial exists in it that a smaller number of the "climate-denier" public have an outsized voice on the matter spurred by a very active, effective and ongoing disinformation campaign. This in turn leads to outsized anger and voting patterns that ensure and outsized political class of climate deniers at the federal level. Unfortunately, this effectively leads to stymied political action on a federal level.

What most people don't perceive however is it is more at the local and state level where actions are being taken in response to the on-the-ground realities of climate change. Things generally happen in a smaller way on the local level first as communities are forced to deal in real time with the realities on the ground.

So there may not be strong and effective policy from the national political class, but there is more at a local/state level where reality is biting harder.

So I would dispute your assertion that "at least 50%" are climate deniers.

I would say that not enough is being done, but this would also be said of people/nations across world always being able to do more. Our capacity as humans to do what is needed is very suspect. Our ability to really recognize and actually deal with real problems has always been a bit questionable. Climate Change and our ability to really effect change on it is yet to be decided. That pandemic gave scientists and the world population a view of what the world without a large amount of human activity was like for a brief time. Will this effectively result in any action? Remains to be seen.

There are many worse places to be if talking about climate change than the US. A few small island nations and countries where there is not enough land mass for people to shift come to mind.

Pandemic.... I would think countries without even the basic means to combat pandemics are in a tougher spot than the US. Poor choices by some of the citizenry aside.

Human nature is everywhere as humans are everywhere.
