I've got a Pixel 3 - and its pretty much the perfect device for me.

I installed the Android 12 update, and it still works fine - does everything that I need, and does all my contactless payments etc etc.

I really don't see any requirement that would make me spend $1000-$1500AUD on a new Pixel 6 - as it doesn't add any functionality that I require.

The 3 year support is purely about forcing users to pay (on average) $300-400 every year for a new device every 3 years. It's all about a regular income stream for Google.

It's not like Google don't have enough resources to build a few extra android builds each month.... You think they'd have CI/CD just about perfect...

Police Arrest Three For Posting 10 Minute Movie Summaries On YouTube (torrentfreak.com) 125

AmiMoJo shares a report from TorrentFreak: Police in Japan have arrested three individuals who uploaded so-called "fast movies" to YouTube. These edits of mainstream movie titles, that use copyrighted content to reveal entire plotlines in around 10 minutes, are said to discourage people from watching the originals, costing the industry hundreds of millions in lost revenue. According to Content Overseas Distribution Association (CODA), there are channels with hundreds of uploads being viewed tens of millions of times, often with a for-profit motive. This means that they may fall outside traditional "fair use" style exceptions.

Miyagi Prefectural Police Life Safety Division and the Shiogama Police Station arrested three suspects under suspicion of uploading "fast movies" to YouTube without the rightsholders' consent. The arrests were reportedly carried out under the Copyright Act, which was boosted with new amendments on January 1, 2021. "From June to July 2020, the suspects edited 'I Am a Hero' and two other motion pictures owned by Toho Co., Ltd. as well as 'Cold Fish' and one other motion picture owned by Nikkatsu Corporation down to about 10 minutes without the permission of the right holders. Further, the suspects added narration and uploaded the videos to YouTube to earn advertising revenue," CODA explains. All of the channels shared by CODA appear to be operated from Japan but there is no shortage of YouTube channels operated from the US too.

Even the in-house hosted Ubiquiti Cloud Key 'solutions' still require being set up to the unifi.ui.com infrastructure.

Eventually though, if your Cloud Key stays offline for extended periods of time, your other Ubiquiti devices will eventually drop their configs - normally killing everything. This is especially problematic when used in a remote office scenario where you can't restore connectivity without having the cloud key online.

At some point, it'll start becoming a criminal offense due to the resource usage, and it'll all crash and burn.... And then we'll actually get to a point where that energy can be used for reducing emissions and not running ponzi schemes...

Almost - but you miss one point. Freedom of Speech has nothing to do with companies or others censoring your views. It is entirely about the government telling you what you can and cannot say. Twitter can do whatever the hell they like with their platform - including 'fact checking' or other things that their board deems to be the direction they want their company to go.

You are not forced to use Twitter, Facebook etc etc - and unless the Government tells you 'You cannot say this under threat of retaliation', then it doesn't apply to any violation of Free Speech.

Freedom of Speech does not in any way exempt you from having your views, words, statements or other content challenged or even being rebuked.

It's quite simple, the US needs Huawei more than Huawei needs the US... And you're right - the mobile phone networks in America are an absolute joke in data limits, speeds, handset compatibility and more...

Who knows, maybe when they are forced to, a 5G rollout may well unify their networks and allow consumer choice to use the same handset between networks etc - but established business practice means this is likely to be squashed for ideology instead.

Sorry mate, but that boat sailed a looooong time ago... The way America is handling COVID-19 now shows exactly why those jobs are gone from the USA...

The irony is that a lot of the world looks at what is going on in the USA and wonders how it hasn't all self-imploded yet... Might be hard to see from the inside, but that's what the rest of the world thinks...

All this patriotism talk feels like the final thrust while spinning around the gurgler...
