Comment Re:What if Marcuse is right? (Score 1) 55

I shut down my brain when I heard “Frankfurt School” and Critical theory”

I live I. Germany and I actually lost a job in Frankfurt a few weeks ago because of this one problem they Germans have.

They theorize all the time and do not actually produce results. The company went down because the software team was meta planning in multiple 8 person meetings how to plan the management of the tea:. It took 5 WEEKS to build a single page on an app to upload a single file,
In a system that will be used maybe 50 times in the next 5 years (upload firmware) Everyone was theorizing about the user story, the code review was a pissing contest about the best way to write hundreds of tests (for one page) and the theorist with the big ideas who continually critiqued every thing was waxing lyrical about the protocol the firmware should use to download an update.

The problem? Mr theorist only did a boot camp in Rails, never touched a C++ compiler in his life and barely knows what a bit is. He is not even remotely qualified to work in a firmware job. Theory theory theory.

Company spent so much money doing that that the customer left and sales went from 300000 units per year to 45000. 6 months ago it expanded the devs from 4 to 9 and was the fastest growing startup in Germany. Now the company is a train wreck but still has to maintain old obligations.

Needless to say the theorist still has a job

Yeah I work in a company that had several high qualified contractors that were slightly expensive and now replaced them wi5 a few people who did a 6 month Rails Bootcamp cause they are cheaper! Yeah! Less $$$$$$! Kaching!!!

Bad plan. Very bad plan. The one experienced guy left had all the stuff dropped on his lap and is rapidly going into burnout.

I was one of the replacements, with loads of experience but the lot are spending all the time discussing ways to improving the process and slapping each others backs in “Scrum Celebrations”
