The US has highly skewed numbers due to the absence of aggressive testing. At this point only persons presenting with acute symptoms are getting tested and many are still being sent home without. The current leader in tests administered is South Korea followed closely by Guangdong, China. The US has administered three orders of magnitude fewer tests per-capita! It's a bunch of bulls*** in the name of political optics. Fed by gross mismanagement and incompetence that was be no means helped by this administration disbanding the US Pandemic Response team. Regardless, using South Korea as a model for mortality rate within a first world nation your margin of error in that calculation is much lower and while still scary high, no where near that reporting.

Agreed. Moore's law isn't done by a long shot. Media companies thought they could make a buck or two with fear mongering articles about Intel, TSMC, et al having some challenges with yield on the shorter wavelengths as they pushed their lithography technology into deep ultra-violet. We're now into extreme ultra-violet and scaling down to 5nm is on many road maps. In addition, a shift into the third-dimension is well on its way. Of course it's harder to generate ad revenue without controversy and fear.
