I buy a decent amount of my books at B&D, I like to feel them in my hands, browse through them, etc. It's a more personal experience.
For a while I really liked Borders... the company was apparently run horribly but the stores near my home were organized better and had a more casual environment than B&N.
If B&N closes, then that's pretty much the last of the BIG book chains. There aren't any small places near where I live so it's not like I'm avoiding mom-and-pop shops; I'd use them if they were
