But, Valve has now officially killed the rumor. And it is not what people wants to hear – there is no Linux version of Steam in development. Doug Lombardi, the Marketing VP of Valve Corporation, in an interview, has put an end to all the rumors by saying that they are not working on Steam for Linux right now.

First, let me just get one thing clear: I actually quite like Linux, and I run a server farm full of Debian servers. I'm about as far from an MS fanboi as you can get.
But Linux is years behind in virtually all the relevant subsystems for gaming. Sound is a nightmare (OSS, ALSA, JACK, PulseAudio - seriously, it has never made sense to have all your sound hardware accessible in a multi-user friendly fasion, so quit trying), graphics not much better (yeah we've got openGL, b
