Octane RTX hardware acceleration delivers 2-5x faster render speeds for NVIDIA raytracing CPUs with multi-GPU supports. RTX acceleration speed increases in more complex scenes. This benchmark can be done using RTX OctaneBench®. The new layered materials system allows you to create complex materials that consist of a base layer and can have up to 8 layers added on top. New nodes include layered material, diffuse, specular, metallic, and layer group nodes.

It is free software, and it is available for Linux/UNIX/Windows and Mac OS X. It is not as focused on 3D modelling (such like Blender), but rather on the CAD aspect. It might be the right application if you're looking to create 3D models from machine parts, but it is probably not the right one if you're more interested in creating computer-animated movies. OpenSCAD is not an interactive modeling tool. It is more like a 3D-compiler, which reads in a script and describes the object. The script file then renders the 3D model. This gives you (the designer), complete control over the modeling process. You can easily modify any step or create designs that are defined using configurable parameters.

NOX is a standalone, physically-accurate state of-an-art renderer that can be used as a stand-alone. Its engine is based upon unbiased methods. Global illumination can be evaluated using either Bidirectional Path Tracing (or Path Tracing). Although light behavior is based upon laws of physics some simplifications are made. No additional software is required for many post-production actions. NOX can import scenes from 3ds Max Blender, Cinema4D and 3ds Max. NOX is a powerful renderer on the market, but it is still in beta. It is constantly evolving and adding new features. You need to understand NOX's philosophy of rendering in order to make the best possible renders. For the best results, read the User Guide. It currently covers features starting with version 0.3.39. We have made a significant leap in software development since then. We are currently working on an updated version of User Guide, and plan to release it in autumn 2013.

Webots by Cyberbotics is a multi-platform, open source desktop application that allows you to model, program, and simulate robots.
