The best all round monitoring solution

    Date: Feb 03 2025

Summary: PRTG is the go-to monitoring tool for industry professionals and for very good reason. Setting up as a first time user can be a learning curve however with plenty of documentation and great customer support, it's pretty simple.

Positive: PRTG is a useful, detailed and trusted tool for IT Professionals around the world, with great customer support when you need it.

The ability to create maps and have monitoring dashboards is very useful to monitor critical systems. The entire system eco is fantastic with clear roadmaps to create a more streamlined product with their new dashboard.

Negative: Having custom map icons is very simple, however having active sensors showing on the map icons is extremely difficult to setup and is not supported by PRTG at the time of writing this review, for our specific use case for PRTG, this would be great. That said, the dynamic icons for provided with PRTG are very good and have always covered every use case I've ever needed throughout my career.

Robust and Comprehensive Network Monitoring Solution

    Edited: Oct 28 2024

Summary: Paessler PRTG is a dependable and feature-rich network monitoring solution that meets the needs of organizations with complex IT environments. Despite the initial setup and learning investment, it proves its worth by offering robust and versatile monitoring capabilities. The reliable alerts and insightful reporting make it invaluable for proactive IT management and problem resolution.

Positive: Paessler PRTG is a powerful tool for network monitoring that provides extensive capabilities for tracking the health, performance, and usage across our entire IT infrastructure. The customizable dashboards allow me to keep a close eye on critical network parameters in real time, which is particularly valuable in quickly identifying and addressing any potential issues before they impact our users. The solution’s modular approach with sensor-based licensing is also very flexible, allowing us to scale our monitoring setup easily as our infrastructure grows. Additionally, PRTG’s alerts and reporting features are highly customizable, ensuring that notifications and performance insights are tailored precisely to our organization’s needs.

Negative: While PRTG offers an impressive array of features, it can initially feel overwhelming, especially for less-experienced users. The learning curve is noticeable as there are so many settings and configurations to understand before you can optimize its use effectively. Additionally, the interface, though functional, can appear dated in comparison to other network monitoring tools and may benefit from a modern refresh to enhance the user experience.

    PRTG NETWORK MONITOR

    Date: Oct 22 2024

Summary: I recommend the use of the tool in both very large and very small environments, my suggestion is that you try a trial version and install less than 100 devices to monitor, if you have the opportunity to monitor Cisco switches with the NETFLOW protocol and sensor it is a great experience

Positive: Its an It is a great monitoring tool, its installation is very easy to achieve as are the sensors inside the tool. To me it is a sensational tool in the observability part since it allows us to anticipate future events, especially in the network part, if you implement the netflow sensor you have a complete x-ray of the network traffic and it allows you to make a capacity planner if you are falling short in your infrastructure. In addition, installing the agents (remote probe) to collect monitoring information for the servers is very easy.

Negative: There should be more options for cloud services, if you want a solution that is not on premise. They only offer service with AWS and it is not fully managed by the Paessler company, which generates many points of failure. For additional tools like IT Ops Board or SLA Reporter they should offer more database options like MySql, Maria DB, etc and not just Microsoft SQL Server

Summary: Paessler PRTG is a powerful network monitoring tool with real-time visibility and alerting capabilities, valuable for any IT infrastructure.

Positive: Its real-time monitoring capability is essential for supervising the network infrastructure and detecting anomalies immediately. PRTG enables complete visibility of connected devices, making it easy to identify potential vulnerabilities. PRTG - Making my life easier.

    Date: Sep 12 2024

Summary: Overall, I don't want to use any other monitoring platform after using this. Adding additional sensor licenses, even adding an additional probe for segmented networks, or for more capacity is a breeze. Their support is also very responsive and knowledgeable...and you cannot beat the price.

Positive: Setting up new monitors is extremely simple and the product is very robust. This product makes handling SNMP monitoring very simple, and the pre-built sensors for most items just work right out of the box with very little configuration.

Negative: I wish the visual maps that you can create had a better interface, but they are still better than any other monitoring platform I have used.

    Monitoring for every occasion

    Date: Aug 30 2024

Summary: Their support is top notch. The product works well for on-prem deployments, and its customization, as well as native vendor integrations are impressive.

Positive: If you can query it, you can monitor it. Creating new, custom monitors for SNMP, as well as windows/Linux scripts works very well. They have many native integrations with all of the vendors that we utilize.

Negative: It is very easy to overwhelm your monitoring node. It should be harder to do this. Fortunately if this does occur it is easy to change scanning intervals for all the heavy hitting monitors with less than 10 clicks.

    Universal monitorring tool

    Date: Aug 26 2024

Summary: First of all, it should be emphasized that PRTG is a program that can be relied upon. The program works without any problems and all updates and migrations performed by us went without problems. The manufacturer's support is exemplary, there is also a large user community, a knowledge base and how-to videos on YouTube. Rather, it is the task of the administrator to find all the options that the program offers. It happens when a specific problem needs to be solved and the program is found to offer a solution. If the solution is not directly part of the program, there is a great possibility of creating your own sensors.

Positive: This monitoring software is easy to install. Against freely distributed programs such in-depth knowledge is not required and basic commissioning is very easy. The program included a lot pre-prepared sensors. On the other hand you can create nearly any possible your own sensor. Autodiscovery is also an option. You are able to monitor Windows, Linus and hardware devices. In the program, it is possible to set different methods of notifications and the time when notifications will be sent.
It is possible to create different views of monitored devices, define access according to users.
At least in our organization, we primarily use a web-based approach to PRTG, but there is also a desktop application. The mobile application for both IOS and Android is also practical.

Negative: They are rather "nice to have". For example, more options and more convenient work with so-called Maps. After creating a user group, an empty device group and notification pattern are automatically created. Although there is an SSO option in connection with Azure, MFA as such is not applied.
It is not possible to prevent the creation of a PRTG ticket after autodiscovery. Despite the high quality of the program, next year there will still be a significant price increase.

    PRTG has been incredible.

    Date: Jul 03 2024

Summary: PRTG has been incredible. We use it daily in a College to monitor the systems we have in place. It is so intuitive and easy to create. Once we figured out the processes for WMI services to be added, we've been able to add as many devices as we've needed. We've also been able to create a map that fits our needs perfectly. Every support ticket we have logged has been actioned quickly and I have found every support technician very polite as well as patient.

Positive: How interactive PRTG is. How the maps can be tailored to suit our needs. The intuitive UI. The support.

Negative: The learning curve for newer users can be quite intense, we have had to learn a few different new techniques with managing WMI for example.

    Comprehensive tool for network scanning

    Date: Apr 22 2024

Summary: Well we are exploring its hidden features, and we have succeed in various aspect through PRTG API.

Positive: As it covers all aspects of network monitoring, easy to install and work on snmp. Covers all switch routers firewalls. servers.

Also its API make it very strong software.

Negative: as no one is complete perfect so they are releasing upgradation to older one by fixing issues.

I think we can not integrate PRTG with Grafana.

Negative: Mainly for network monitoring, the drawing function is relatively basic, and the topology drawing function is single.
