Description

Omarchy is an Arch Linux-based desktop operating system designed to provide a productive, customizable computing environment for developers and technical users. Created by David Heinemeier Hansson, the distribution combines the Hyprland tiling window manager, Quickshell desktop components, and a keyboard-focused interface. The operating system includes preconfigured applications such as Neovim, Chromium, Obsidian, and LibreOffice, reducing the need for extensive setup after installation. Its integrated AI agent capabilities enable users to diagnose application crashes, troubleshoot system issues, and create custom desktop extensions through conversational instructions. Omarchy provides system-wide themes that modify wallpapers, terminal colors, notifications, interface elements, and other desktop components. Development tools support Ruby on Rails, Laravel, Node.js, Docker, Git workflows, and configurable programming language environments through Mise. Users can install alternative editors and terminals, including Visual Studio Code, Cursor, Zed, Alacritty, Ghostty, and Kitty, while maintaining consistent system shortcuts. Gaming capabilities include Steam, Proton, RetroArch, and support for additional game launchers, while Windows virtualization enables access to compatible Windows productivity applications. Omarchy offers full-disk and dual-boot installation, default disk encryption, software updates, and community-developed plugins for extending desktop functionality.

Description

You set it up once and then enjoy its benefits indefinitely. There's no need to fret every six months about significant system upgrades that could potentially render your device unusable. Instead, you receive regular updates that not only tackle security vulnerabilities and eliminate bugs but also introduce the latest features and advancements, including updated kernels, new drivers, and the most current desktop environment versions. Each update undergoes rigorous testing in line with industry-leading quality standards, utilizing a build service that other Linux distributions aspire to emulate. Not only is every new package version tested individually, but various clusters of versions are also compared to ensure your system's internal consistency. With just one command, you can update thousands of packages, revert to a snapshot from the previous week, fast-forward to the latest changes, and even preview what future releases will look like. This streamlined process allows users to seamlessly manage their systems without the usual headaches associated with traditional upgrades.
