Back from Maui, and look what we find.

  • Really needs to rename itself the Atheist's Civil Liberties Union- near as I can tell, they haven't had a single case supporting the expression clause of the First Ammendment since the 1960s.
    • Look at the FIRE [thefire.org] (Foundation for Individual Rights in Education) web site and there are a few of these minor local cases that the ACLU has supported along with FIRE regarding religious speech supression by campus speech codes.

      • I was utterly unware of FIRE- seeing as how they didn't even exist when I was in college. Nice to see some inroads being made in this area.

        May their efforts soon trickle down to high school and grade school campuses as well. And from there, to the town halls and state capitols where "establishment" clause enforcement seems to have overrun "expression" clause enforcement.
        • I don't remember how I first heard of them, but they do a good job and fight all the piddly little crap and they fight some big ones too. For example, there was a kid in CA that almost got expelled for posting a flyer advertising their club's guest speaker who was a black author of a book titled "It's ok to leave the plantation" but the kid was charged with harassment and inciting racial tensions when he attempted to post the flyer on a public message board.
