bubblegoose's Journal: OK Tivo, now I'm a little annoyed

Tivo is now giving away the Home Media Option for free.

I'm going to write them and ask for my $99 back (well $50 after the rebate).

I bought lifetime on the first one (back before they had their last price increase), so that doesn't help me either.

HMO never seemed that compelling to me...

...then again, I'm still running a (heavily-upgraded) Philips HDR112. Even if it could support HMO, it never seemed like a big-enough win, especially considering what I'd have to give up (video ripping, mainly) in the move to Series 2.

More recently, I've started toying with MythTV. There are still areas (especially scanning forward/backward through video) where TiVo still has the advantage, but MythTV is still a relatively new project.
