Journal RedHat_Linux_Man's Journal: Trolls 2

Slashdot needs a troll filter, seriously. I know you can browse at a +1 threshhold and stuff, but things sometimes... ok, lot's of times don't get modded correctly. All this GNAA and greased yoda doll stuff is crap, I'm thinking about not ever coming back to slashdot again.

  • So far, the slashdot answer to trolls is to limit AC posting, ban subnets, require 2 minutes between posts, and a lameness filter. Notice that they don't stop trolls, but they do affect normal users.

    Rob Malda has stated (see the last slashdot IRC interview at slashnet) that trolls are the same as people that piss in the pool. I think he's wrong. The same reason he's wrong is the same reason there are so many trolls.

    Some people troll/crapflood/etc to be assholes, but the root cause is the slashdot hie

  • larry bagina has some good ideas about how this place *should* work. It's a little too k5-ish for me, but I do agree that there is a serious problem here at /. with regards to trolls and moderation.

    No one is going to fix those problems, if past performance is any predictor of future results.

    So in the meantime, just add this guy [slashdot.org] to your friends list and adjust your user preferences accordingly.
