Rick Schumann's Journal: ..and some people would have us forget all about things like this

Our species is capable of amazing things, aren't we? We may not be able, not quite yet, to go to Mars ourselves, but we build amazing machines we can send there as our proxies, to gather data from another world, and who knows? Maybe we find evidence, for the first time in human history, that life existed somewhere other than Earth -- or perhaps we find life extant on Mars. How much would that shake things up for us, and how awesome would that be?

Meanwhile, however, there is a big fraction of our species who would have us give up all this exploration, give up the never-ending search for real facts and real truth, instead just going round and round in circles on this one little ball of rock and water we call The Earth, until our species dies and goes away, forgotten by the Universe, fading back into dust and nothingness.

WHY SHOULD WE EVER LET THEM HAVE THEIR WAY!?
