damn_registrars's Journal: Just how bad is Microsoft Teams?

I brought this up in a recent comment but thought I'd bring it up as a JE for easy access as well. In short, it's a fucking disaster. :

I had to use MS Teams on my windows 10 laptop for a call with some overseas collaborators recently. It completely shattered my expectations of what a total unmitigated disaster it could be.

• First I clicked the link I was sent for it so I could download it to be on the team. Surprisingly enough the link worked fine from a non-MS browser.
• I entered my email address there to download the application and (supposedly) link me to the team.
• I started the application, where I then had to enter my email address yet again
• The application at that point told me it did not recognize my email address.
• I then copied the authorization code from the email that was sent to me (by my team) into MS Teams. It then told me it did not recognize my email address
• The application then crashed. I restarted it.
• With no better ideas, I clicked the "new account" button and entered my email address.
• I finished creating my account through that function.
• It then asked me for my team name, which I entered. It didn't find the team so it made a new one for me with that name.
• Eventually the invitation from my team member came through, which added me to the correct team - now putting me on two teams with identical names
• The search function - to search for a team by name - is completely broken. I could not find either team by the exact name or anything similar to it.

And to make it better, by default the installation of this software is for it to start every time you boot. I've used it exactly once and expect I'm unlikely to use it ever again - though finding a way to stop it from auto-starting was not easy either.

Good job Microsoft. You made a social network that is less reliable than Windows ME, with none of the benefits of Google Plus.
