Journal phyxeld's Journal: More Photos, and an actual weblog 13

I finally got around to installing blosxom!
My weblog is now online here.

The first post you'll see is a gallery of >200 photos I shot on Saturday the 22nd at the Peace Rally in San Francisco.

There are several notable signs that I'd like to invite slashdot readers to view.

The layout is kind of plain, but I'm working on it... I did at least spruce up the iPhoto galleries a little bit, with a few lines of perl.

  • ...needs some courage to post such signs around here. Just retreated from a flamewar on the very topic.
    • Posting stuff on the internet doesn't take much courage, imo. The people with courage are the ones in the streets right now, risking arrest and physical battery for the cause of peace. I can tell you first hand that just being in the city right now is potentially enough to get you assaulted by the police (I was).

Posting on slashdot is intellectual masturbation to get through the workday; it's far from courageous.

Now i'm gonna have to go step in that mess you made in Xerithane's journal :)
      • Posting on slashdot is intellectual masturbation

Regardless of whether it's intellectual or not, something that approaches intercourse is taking place because other people are reading and replying to what you post... circle jerk is more like it.
      • Okay, I agree. It's the protestors that are the one with courage. For the record, both my sister and my mom went marching last weekend (not in the US of course, which probably makes it less courageous). I would have went myself, but I had an American to entertain ;-)

Don't step into that mess... It's already bad enough that way. I gave up on them: I won't reply anymore. ;-)

  • If your provider supports it. You need NetPBM, PHP 4 not running in safe mode, and just a few other minor things. It's a hell of a good thumbnail page creation program.

    • I'm familiar with gallery, and my host is setup for it. In fact, someone else is even using it there. But I'm of the opinion that it's not usually necessary to have image galleries be dynamically generated for each page view... and I don't really trust PHP apps much. And on a multiuser webserver, any user can basically own your gallery (in fact, the recent bugtraq post [securityfocus.com] about this issue came from someone with a user account on my webserver...). I'd like to eventually use blosxom with static rendering, and ho
