Whuffo's Journal: How to build website traffic?

I'm wondering how to build traffic to a specialty website. I'm not looking for the site to be slashdotted or farked, I'd just like to get the word out in a cheap and non-spammy way.

Does anyone here have any good suggestions?

Join forums related to your specialty and advertise (carefully of course).

Put your site's address in your sig/profile of every website you belong to. That stuff adds up.

Try not to be a dick. A lot of old rules still apply. Politeness, courteousness, etc. will take you far.
