Journal Marxist Hacker 42's Journal: White House Forgery 15

If the CIA is this bad at forgery, somebody should be fired.

So, along with every other anti-Birther I know, I applauded Obama releasing his birth certificate yesterday.

Needless to say, some incompetent made fools of us all- and didn't even bother to hide his tracks (just click on the first link and load it up in illustrator if you don't believe me).

So, do they think we have no computer skills? Or is this a distraction?

The original document on file is WHITE paper with black text. It was SCANNED in and printed on the green paper background. The white-out effect you see is when you set the background color (white) to TRANSPARENT before pasting it down. This is done because they didn't want a big white square in the middle of a green paper.

Feel free to reproduce this effect at your leisure. It is trivial and the edge fuzziness happens depending on the threshold level of the background color selection.

    • But why the green paper background to begin with? Seems like a completely unnecessary step. And what's up with the last digit of the serial number anyway? And the modern use of the term African, instead of the historically accurate use of the term Negro (NOBODY used African as a race in 1961!)? And the use of Kenya as a country, when Kenya would not exist until 1963?

Yes, the green paper effect is just clumsiness. But there's a lot more changed than just that in this document.

        You're kidding me, right?

The green paper background is their "security" paper, like many official documents use. Is it necessary? They seem to think so and there is nothing out of the ordinary in it. Lots of places use security paper or watermarks.

"African" is what the person -- probably Obama's mama -- told the nurse filling in the form. Considering the multi-ethnicity of Hawaii with the Japanese, Chinese, white, black and every sort of polynesian at the time, I doubt anyone was going to argue. Especi

        • Well, then why didn't they flatten the layers? Why is the last digit of the serial number a *separate layer* from the rest of the printing? Why edit the information at all?

Seems to me they could have just done the black and white scan and left it at that. Especially since that's what they told everybody they DID.

Because it is an automated process. One click.

I set up a scanning system for a financial services firm who had decades of paper records they wanted to digitize. Our setup was Adobe Acrobat Professional on a fast Windows XP machine w/a lot of RAM and a high-speed, sheet-fed scanner.

I took a couple of hours to tweak the settings before saving them to a template. Basically I played with the threshold, contrast, DPI and brightness until I found the optimal settings for the types of forms we were scanning and

            • And why would the birth certificate of the President need to be editable?

This was supposed to be evidence, not an editable form. This was *advertised* to be a straight from the form IMAGE, not some OCR'ed thing.

All you've done is proven to me that the Obama Administration:
              1. Hires incompetents
              2. Doesn't know the meaning of the word "evidence"
              3. Is so so computer illiterate that they don't know even *basic* settings.

              • by chill ( 34294 )

Yup. 10,000x more plausible than some elaborate forgery.

Never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence.

                • Precisely what the malicious want you to think.. Takes the pressure off. Anybody ever think that Bush's 'idiocy' was just an act? I would say it was pretty effective..

              • I find it very strange that people demand more evidence of his place of birth than they do for bin laden's role in 9/11, where all we ever got was government hearsay and a bunch of dead people. The bodies are still piling up, and yet...

      • And the modern use of the term African, instead of the historically accurate use of the term Negro (NOBODY used African as a race in 1961!)?

Because his father was literally African. Not "African American" or "Negro", but straight up "African". Because you know... he was from Africa.

And the use of Kenya as a country, when Kenya would not exist until 1963?

There is no such distinction that "Kenya" is being used as a country. The box is "Birthplace (Island, State or Foreign Country)", which for his father was "Somewhere in Kenya, East Africa".

To note as well, should we extend that the form makes the claim that "Wichita" is an Island? Or a State? Or even on the form that's presumed to be genuine as a comparator, Woodland CA is an Island, State or Foreign Country? What about Los Angeles, CA? Also an Island?

        • This is a form from Hawaii- it makes sense that "Island" is on there.

In 1961, NOBODY used "African" as a race- in fact, when you consider the number of white people in control of South Africa, African is not a race at all.

          • This is a form from Hawaii- it makes sense that "Island" is on there.

I was never arguing that including "Island" in that list was inappropriate. But making the statement "Kenya wasn't a country then!" Is as stupid as saying that Wichita is an Island, or a State, or a Country. Because the mother's birthplace is given as "Wichita, Kansas". Meanwhile, the father's birthplace is given as "Kenya, East Africa". Seems pretty freaking clear cut to me. This is some random Hospital employee typing this out... to expect them to write "Keynan Colony, United Kingom" is expecting a little

The birthers are going to keep at it until they're holding the actual, original certificate in their hands.

Then they'll burn it and continue to insist that Obama is a damn dirty furriner because he doesn't have a birth certificate.

BTW comparing the certificate to one from a different island is a nifty trick. Now find one from that month, signed by the same doctor on the same island that doesn't match Obama's and I'll start to take notice. Find two (one before, one after) and show that they didn't change f

    • First, agreed about the birthers- but that's what makes the problems with this PDF file so hard.

What do you mean "one from a different island"? Box 7b, Island, on both say Oahu. Heck, even look at the serial numbers at the top of both- 10637 vs 10641.

The best laid plans of mice and men are held up in the legal department.
