Journal Anarki2004's Journal: Mail servers for n00bs 1

More often I am reading about people running their own personal mail servers to prevent mega-corporations from processing/retaining their private data. I am somewhat new to the prospect of operating/maintaining a private mail server but have a generally sound knowledge of computers. My question is this: what sort of tools, literature, and tips would you offer to a person who wants to run a private mail server from his home connection? Is this sort of project feasible for somebody who doesn't have some formal training? Try to keep in mind that I am not an IT professional but I do have some basic know-how in the field.

    Step 2:
Obtain a static IP from your ISP (this usually requires a business account, and usually also gets you around the various blocks ISPs have put on their users)
    Step 3:
Install an SMTP server. For a trivial installation like this, you probably don't want to use something like courier or sendmail. Debian's exim package has probably the simplest "basic" setup scr

It's a naive, domestic operating system without any breeding, but I think you'll be amused by its presumption.
