I got a new box on Slashdot this afternoon, thanking me for my 'positive contributions' and letting me turn off advertising because of them. Wait, there's advertising on the Internet now? When did that start?

I got the same notice, and thought the same thing. Googled that phrase [google.com], and your journal entry was the only relevant hit.
I believe I actually said aloud, "Huh? I already [mozilla.org] disabled [mozilla.org] advertisements [mozilla.org]."

That may be your problem. I often get modded Troll. This year alone so far I'd estimated that maybe 30 to 40 percent of my Moderations are labeled Troll, but good enough so far to still be in the Excellent range and get the MVP status of lots of mod points and no-ad options (Funny too because I also often tell people to "fuck off", especially the Moderators). I guess they like "Trolls" who can post on a wing and a prayer.

Excellent, and it has been since they started measuring it. Despite my frequent trolling. My guess is, this is related to karma x number of posts.

I'm wondering if [max(UID) - UID] isn't a term in the equation as well. All of the people I've seen mention finding the checkbox have been members of the 3-, 4-, or 5-digit user ID club.
