Journal smittyoneeach's Journal: In which a certain piece of work on here is thoroughly pegged 5

"In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, not to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is...in some small way to become evil oneself. One's standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to."

You know who you are, peddler of filth. And if I'm incorrect, I won't know short of Eternity, for this is pretty much what I think of you: a dirty diaper that, despite the best efforts, continues to spew crap in all directions, contaminating everything.
I think you false, diabolical, and unworthy of dialogue. Return to your pit.

  • That's some big talk coming from a seemingly steadfast doormat for the Left. Assuming you're serious, remember that, whoever this is about, they know not what they do. If you're really gotten over yourself and the thinking that you can save those who are really too far gone, recommend ixnay on the venom and just forgiving and moving on. Maybe God has a plan to later reach certain people, through other vessels. Something worth praying for.

    • Yeah, that's good advice. I was kind of tired when I wrote this. Nor do I have a problem forgiving people, lest the past be a prison.
But the point stands: there are people on /. who embody this propaganda ideal.
  • He makes a great sweeping statement there, but doesn't say which "communist societies" he has studied. It is impossible to tell from that statement if he has even the slightest idea what communism actually entails or if he is on your path of discarding facts in favor of his own preferred world view. The page didn't even say where that line comes from, just as it doesn't say where any of his other ones came from.

One person's error is another person's data.
