Journal Short Circuit's Journal: Road trip westward -- Who wants a visit? 11

I'm planning on spending this summer with my brother in Seattle. I could take Greyhound, and visit any of you folks that fall between Michigan and the Pacific Ocean.

Time frame would be May-June. I know some of you folks live in the Rockies and westward. How many of you folks would like to meet up? I don't care how convoluted the route gets, really, so long as I'm able to save up the cash for the bus fare.

If you take a wrong turn and end up in Toronto, let me know.
  • Let me know when you hit town. Seattle is just one traffic jam away. :-)
  • I guess the request for a stopover is a bit moot.

OTOH there are several /. people in Western WA, so plans should be made for some get togethers while you are out here. Also don't forget the fine folks down in PDX or up in Hongcouver, both a short train/bus ride away.

As for taking the trip out West you should do as much of it by train as possible, long Greyhound trips suck bigtime.
    • I took Greyhound all the way to Omaha, once. The scenery was pretty enjoyable. (Though I wouldn't necessarily want to do the same thing all the way across Montana.)

I agree; if you can afford the extra trainfare, the train is nice. Luckily the one time I travelled by train I was able to get a sleeper car ($$$), but it was really nice, and a great way to actually see the countryside. Plus the food was great :-) Though even coach on the train has got to be more comfortable than the bus. But the bus still beats driving (at least to me, since I can read along the way) :-D
    • I'm in PDX and only know of a couple other slashdotters in this neck of the woods, and none of them journal regularly. But Seattle is only 3 hours away or so, so if you do a weekend meetup I'll drive up and join ya'all.
    • Agreed. Amtrak is a much more pleasant way to go. The seats are roomy enough to sleep in, and you can stroll around the train whenever you get restless. Bring your own food for the most part, though. The snacks as I recall are quite expensive for what you get. Dinners in the dining car are expensive too, but sharing a table with strangers on a train is an experience that's worth the price at least once in your life.

If you happen to swing by Portland, I'd be delighted to meet you there. The Puget Sound is pr
  • not sure of you're route, but i'd get coffee and some pie with you if you stopped at Brookings, SD.
