Journal Shadow Wrought's Journal: A Wii Conversation 6

To put this in perspective, you need to know that my wife is not a gamer. Not in the least. When the kids and I talk about games she nods politely and leaves it at that. In five years I have seen her play a game once, and that was when it the kids pick for what we did on Family Night.

After we left the store we were talking about what to get my youngest stepson for Christmas.

Me: Well, let's see... We got him the sketch pad already, and we did get Zelda and the Strategy Guide.

Wife: Actually... I didn't get the Strategy Guide for him.

Me: Who did you get it for then?

Wife: [quiet voice] Me.

Me: Wha...?

Wife: I wanted to try it after the holidays are over, cause it actually looks like it might be fun. I knew though that I wouldn't have a chance without the Guide.

Me: [stunned silence]

Me: That's awesome!

  • my wife played twilight princess all the way through. it was awesome and has gotten her interested in other games. we are working through lego starwars 2 right now.
  • My wife is the one that got me into gaming. I used to play the occasional FPS shooter, but my wife has gotten me into playstation games and MMORPGs and all sorts of other computer games. Now, we will often play console games together, like story games, where we will switch the controller back and forth after a little while.
    • I must be the only one here getting a PS3. My wife (a non-gamer) saw a PS3 hooked up to a 1080p TV and said: "Wow".

Of course, I need to get a 1080p TV, but hopefully that will come next week (after Christmas sale!!)

The Wii looks interesting, but.. the controller seems kind of gimmicky (albeit fun) and I'm not sure I'd want every game to be motion controlled...
      • I'm really not a PS fan in general. The controllers don't fit my hands very well and I find them extremely uncomfortable to use. I like the Wii and I even like the Xbox. I'll probably get a 360 next Christams when they do the Halo 3 bundle;-)

I've never been much of an RPG fan, and have only played them with the kids to do something with them. Never thought of doing it with the wife...

  • I got my wife to play one round of Wiisports Golf. She quit after that. At least my son's playing with me.
  • That's actually kind of cute. It's good that she's showing interest in something the rest of the family enjoys.
