Journal Red Warrior's Journal: Calling all Geeks: Headsets 10

Clarification: Calling all Geeks who are readining my journal in the normal course of wandering through the zoo. If you're reading this because it appeared on the front page, despite my selecting "Post", please piss off. 'Cuz journals don't belong on the front page. And I only want opinions from the WASHED masses. Thanks for your time. :-P

Now, for the zoo:
PC/Laptop Headsets, USB or otherwise. Whadda like?
I've found with doing my online meetings with my reserve unit, as well as a little bit of Skype, that my $9.99 headset I bought a few years back (and never used until recently) sucks.

I need something that has good audio quality, and doesn't have a lot of feedback. If the headset were wireless, that would be double-plus good, though not required.

So, whadda got? Like it? Hate it? Recommendations?[1]

[1] Just for the record, "buy a Mac/IPOD", while technically a recommendation[2], really wouldn't solve my issue in this case. :-)

[2] And not bad in its own right, and my Vista upgrade path.

I haven't used these, but all the Sennheiser headphones and mics I've used or been around have been great (ranging in quality and shape, from cheap consumer items to wireless stage mics, wireless voice stage headset mics, stage mics, reference headphone monitors and so on) A bit expensive, but it comes with the inline USB plug and can also plug directly into a sound card. Sennheiser makes some fantastic quality stuff. I have a pair of 30 dollar
    • Ditto. No, really.

Thirded. I have a $50 pair of sennheisers which sound great, are comfy, and have so far survived two years of cat attacks and being dropped with only one minor electrical tape repair to the cord.
  • Not wireless, and not really a headset, but have you considered a decent set of headphones or earbuds, plus a cheap lapel mic?
  • Get a bluetooth dongle and one of the nice Moto (or other brand of your choice) bluetooth earphone. They are designed for voice and Windows XP works with them just fine. I've never tried it with any of my Linux boxes, so if you're using Linux on the desktop YMMV.

    • Can you use a bluetooth headset for audio with a laptop? I have bluetooth built into my t60p and it will pick up my headset, but the headset shows up like a serial device. Am I missing something obvious?
      • Ah, you might need to hunt around on the Lenovo site for a different/updated bluetooth driver. What I meant is Windows XP works with them just fine provided your bluetooth adapter's driver supports the proper profile. Check here [windowsdevcenter.com] for info that might help you get it working.

  • The USB types definitely pick up less CPU generated noise than the analog type. Other than that, it's hard to say. At work, I'm in the pilot project to give up my Cisco VoIP hardphone for a softphone. I bought a Labtec (generally a low-end brand) for my wife to use Skype, but she hasn't, so I took it to work for the Cisco test. Works great. I bought an expensive Labtec, if that matters - $50, designed for gamers. Specifically, it is light-weight so that it can be worn for hours. I do wear it for hours, to b
