Journal NFLFan's Journal: NFL 2006: Week 7 4

  • Steve McNair hurt. How often will I get to write that this season?
  • How bad are the Dolphins? I may not have bought into this year's hype about the Dolphins but I also did not think they would be bottom dwellers.
  • I think the Steelers showed why they should not be counted out just yet.
  • Wow, how about those New Orleans Saints?
  • The Seahawks were very lucky to escape with a win.
  • I said the Bengals are missing heart and I still picked them! Why?
  • I caught the last 5 minutes of the Carolina at Baltimore game and was again reminded how bad of a coach Brian Billick is.
  • What was Larry Johnson, who two games ago was gruesomely tackled by his facemask, thinking when he tackled Polamalu by the hair?
  • Chicago at Arizona, what a game! The Bears were very lucky to win. I still consider the Bears the best team in the league right now. Denny Green needs to take a chill pill. Arizona firing their offensive coordinator makes no sense.
  • What are the Ravens doing?

Sunday, Oct. 22
Carolina at Cincinnati 1:00 p.m.
I like the Panthers. I like Steve Smith more than Chad Johnson.

Detroit at N.Y. Jets 1:00 p.m.
I like the Jets. The Lions cannot put together a winning streak, could they?

Green Bay at Miami 1:00 p.m.
I like the Dolphins. If you like the Pack then pick the Pack. This one can go either way.

Jacksonville at Houston 1:00 p.m.
I like the Jaguars. Just dislike the Texans.

New England at Buffalo 1:00 p.m.
I like the Patriots. Buffalo coult not even beat the Lions...

Philadelphia at Tampa Bay 1:00 p.m.
I like the Eagles. The Bucs traded Booger!

Pittsburgh at Atlanta 1:00 p.m.
I like the Steelers. Two enigmatic teams. The Steelers looked better than the Falcons last week.

San Diego at Kansas City 1:00 p.m.
I like the Chargers. How could I pick the Chiefs after last week?

Denver at Cleveland 4:05 p.m.
I like the Broncos. What can I say about Clevend? I want to go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame some day.

Arizona at Oakland 4:15 p.m.
I like the Cardinals. I know a lot of people think the Cardinals will be demoralized after that Chicago game but I disagree.

Minnesota at Seattle 4:15 p.m.
I like the Seahawks. Seahawks at home are close to unbeatable.

Washington at Indianapolis 4:15 p.m.
I like the Colts. Everybody seems to be beating the Redskins right now.

Monday, Oct. 23
N.Y. Giants at Dallas 8:30 p.m.
I like the Cowboys. Just a gut pick, no good reason.

  • When Larry Johnson took that guy down by the hair, that was totally legal - I caught a bit on NFL Network talking to a league official, who stated that hair worn down like that is considered part of the uniform and that it's perfectly OK to use it to tackle someone. The players know this, so the better question is why anyone would wear his hair like that on the field. There was a penalty because after the tackle he lifted the guy up by his hair as well, which was Unsportsmanlike Conduct...
    • Yeah, it was a legal hit, and I didn't even get upset about it... until I saw LJ start pulling him up by it... if he would have let it go, then everything would have been peachy.

And the Steelers should mob the Falcons. Why? The Steelers are one of the top running defenses in the NFL. That means Vick has to win it with his arm. If Vick gets injured and Schaub steps in, then the Steelers may have trouble...

I meant to write something about the last time the Steelers and Falcons met but I forgot. You know, the tie game. The Steelers seemed to shut Vick down for 3 quarters but when he wanted to run in the 4th he did and eventually tied up the game. I do not remember how good/bad the Steelers run d was that year but they usually are pretty good. Of course, if they Steelers play like they did last week then it should not matter what Vick does.

I know it was legal and there are no white flags in football but that tackle at the juncture in the game was totally uncalled for. Really does not matter though, the guy ended up being fine and there has not been that much noise about it.
