  • How the hell did I make it into the top 25 of your list. How the hell did 240 (was it?) people decide that they wanted to read the crap that I post in my journal?

No, it's not a popularity contest. It's fucking freaky, is what it is!!

    ....Bethanie....

P.S. How'd you figure that out? Was is a script or something? See -- I'm such a fish out of water that I don't even know what it would be called!!
    • For some of us... we're just really keen on what you have to say. For others... hey how many women brea...bend the law for us :D
      • Hey! Nobody saw me, you can't prove anything!!

Personally, I think it's my unbridled use of filthy swear words as subject headings that attracts my fans from far and wide!! ;-)

        ....Bethanie....
        • 'Sokay I burned the incriminating evidence and names have been changed to protect the innocent. I said to protect the innocent :D
So it's like Howard Stern? Half the people fan you to see what you're going to say next and love it and the other half of the people fan you to see what you will say next and hate it?
    • It's a woman! Oh my god, oh my god.

      Linzeal faints

      • And then comes to and immediately clicks over to his "relationship" page to "friend" said woman in hopes that his long bout with celibacy may soon come to an end (and ignoring the fact that this particular woman is an old, happily married hausfrau currently gestating a considerable belly-full of child).

Well, hey, whatever creams your twinkie, big guy. ;-)

        ....Bethanie....
Not *your* twinkie, specifically, but the typical /. fan-from-out-of-nowhere.
      • Hmmm . . . Linzeal . . . 52 fans
    • Hmmm. A script. That would have save an awful lot of time.

  • Shucks, and I'm only at 32 :P

Every now and again, I sometimes wonder why someone fans me, considering that I tend to make nothing but snippy comments. =)

Of course, I'm not complaining! :)
    • With the exception of one person, I also wonder why some people flag me as a foe. Maybe because they also get fed up reading said snippy comments. Again, it doesn't bother me if they do. :P
    • nah, I only friend people that have journal's I want to read. I just mod up friend-of-friend to see their posts in comments easier.

I know I have wasted quite a few mod points on you, though :)

      -Ab
      • Well, as far as I'm concerned, you're friending people for the right reasons then so you can read their journals. Not that I have any say on what "right reasons" constitute to people :)

Lately, I have had more free time, so I'll probably have time to read stuff and post some comments.

BTW: mod points are appreciated, it's good to know my comments mean sonmething :D
  • sql*kitten [slashdot.org] is not in your friends list, nor are you in his....
  • Heh heh. Yeah. I am suprised that many people want to read my drivel. Or perhaps its that I am female.

Wait. Maybe that is why I *didn't* make the list. Because I use a male username. Ahhhh. I see now. That's it. *really*... lol

Very neat. I'd recently been pondering (probably due to things like Orkut, FOAF, etc) the idea of getting some sort of script to spider /. collecting stats on the interrelationships, to try to graph it all, such that it'd be possible to see various groups, and who the real /. VIPs are (Wil Wheaton excepted, I found a few of those statistics a little surprising).

For one thing, I'd long wondered if "the JE circle" was the only such group of any significant extent on slashdot, or if there were others I wasn't

    • Well, I didn't only ponder about it, I actually started coding it. Not that I ever finished it, but well, I started. I gave about up when it came to the "graphical" part: I suck at graphics ;-)

I personally already find it quite astonishing that I have over 100 fans. Oh, well, I also like to slack and reading journals is perfect for that.

Oh, and FWIW, I have 30 fans.

      That's incorrect: you have 31 fans... ;-)

      • Hey, if you can do a graph data structure of the relationships, I think someone else here can probably find a way to think about visualizing it. I'd volunteer to give it a cut, but I never have time for my own stuff.

And of course, we're talking about a directed graph here; you don't have to be my friend even if I'm your fan :-)

      • by turg ( 19864 ) *
If you got the data, you can plug it into a spreadsheet and get your graphs from there.
      • Oho! So you managed to get scripts to interpret the relevant slashdot pages? I suppose I could have done that too*, but it probably wasn't too trivial, so well done! As for the graphics, well I'm hardly an artist, but I seem able to do very simple graphics code at least.
(*-so many other interesting hacks to hack; besides, I'm on dialup so it'd take all year to run)

For the representation, I had in mind something inspired by some posters I saw at Uni, where somebody had written a program to draw a graph o

What is this, Friend Tomble Day?! :) I'm left wondering if that paragraph of my comment was (unwittingly) what Interrobang would recognise as an "Appeal Ad Misercordiam"?

No, you have deserved it. You post sensible things, no flames, no trolls, and seem to be a frienly person in the first place. I used to friend people who friend me at once, but I do not do that anymore. Now they have t

          • (Attempt no 2: possibly I will be able to post this [slashdot.org] this time)

So I really shouldn't be here right now,

Ha, what an understatement! :D I trust you didn't keep her waiting too long!

No, you have deserved it. You post sensible things,

Thanks! *blush* But to be honest, a lot of my posts are fairly clueless or inane...

no flames, no trolls, and seem to be a frienly person in the first place.

    • That's because you still use an "S" is "Fscking"...
      • What else would you use for the word "system" in file-system check? Hmmmmm?
      • Before I used linux (and consequently found out that fsck is a real term), I used to think it was some political correct way of combining fuck and suck into one all-alround derogatory term. :)

        -Ab
      • Hah! I can shout obscenities with the best of them. I just seem to like the word "fscking". It's got a certain something, I think*.

Aah, but really, I don't actually want to go deliberately making enemies just to have somebody on my Freaks list, no matter how tempting it may be.

(*-In fact, my sole comment in my original /. account (the one that I made around 5 years back, that sort of vanished after a prolonged absence) was in a poll about suitable replacements for the term "Hacker", where I suggested "Fsc

  • Since I have only been posting on /. less than two months, I only have 21 fans.

It's no surprise to me that Red Warrior has 149. (he and bethanie are the reasons I joined in) There are alot of us out there that are watching to make sure that he makes it home from Iraq ok.

And Bethanie? It's not your swearing in the subject line that gets me. You're a woman after my own heart, and we need to stick together!

    • Yes, we do need to stick together. I sense in you a kindred spirit. :-) Even though my main reason to go to baseball games *is* to check out the guys, be they on the field or off (but chances are the ones on the field get paid more, so they obviously have the advantage...)

      ....Bethanie....
    • Hmm. You are my third new Friend(TM) on this page. Congrats.

P.S. Could you spare some change? I need money to buy a pet sloth.:)

      What, I'm #54? Hah! take that #56!
Had to adjust for the tie with Ethered. Tie goes to me, 'cuz He's usually wrong. ;-P
  • I'm tied with jamie! Someone friend me so I'm better than him!!! (I'm only half kidding.) ;-)
  • Surprised I'm still that high up there. Thought people got bored and switched off to like em or gmhowell. Jokes on them, I guess ;-)
    • It is nuts isn't it?

290? What the fuck is wrong with you people?

I'm taking a break, just got the rest of the lumber and now it's time to clean the damned house.

I wonder how many fans you got the day Michael called you a kid who needed to get out more ;)

And yes, I think we have a ton of bored people here, wtf are they reading?

      later kids.
    • well bored people wouldn't go through the effort of actually un-friending you.

Well, that's pretty durn fascinating. Never thought I'd have so many fans...but then again, I haven't really counted.

Fascinating. Especially when you consider how low my entry posting rate is compared to the rest of y'all.

    • by ces ( 119879 )
Cripes, I didn't realize there are actually 85 people who bothered to friend me.

Like daoine I don't post journal entries often and I wouldn't think my entries or comments are all that interesting.

I wanna see the foes list, dagnabit.
  • Out of curiosity, how do people here get so many fans anyway? I've been on Slashdot for yonks, keep a regular journal, yet I only have 28 fans. Perhaps I go on about really boring crap all the time.

On the other hand, I only have one freak.
    • I think you'll find that almost all of the people on this list do almost all of their posting in other people's journals (in fact many say they don't read the actual slashdot articles anymore). The people with journals are the people who do the most friending and they find most of their friends in their own journals and their friends' journals.

If you actually want to do something about it, I'd start with posting in the journals of Em Emalb, Ethelred Unraed, FortKnox, MonTemplar, bethanie, SolemnDragon, Cyr

Grow breasts. Unless you already have them (too lazy to check). In that case, flaunt them, preferably with a web cam.

Or, you could go the boring route and post comments in other people's journals. That's what I did (without the intent of being a friend whore) and it worked out okay.
