A week after finding out that the client expects to be able to run the software I'm writing on a Windows server
... on a 50mbit line with 30mbit devoted to VoIP ... on a server that isn't even built yet ... because they "need to keep it in house" ... -
This morning, they call because they want to know if we can set it up on an external server they're thinking of leasing for a month
... because the Windows drivers aren't available for the hard disks they ordered ... and they won't have their server ready in time ... -
I point them to the new server, which is currently running the software wickedly fast, with the ability to handle in one day, every day, 3 months worth of expected traffic without breaking a sweat, on a domain we registered just for that purpose
... ... they want to run it as a subdomain off another server ... and the DNS "A" record to direct traffic from subdomain requests for the old server to the new server refuses to propagate. Lesson learned - if a customer has stuff on 1 & 1, be prepared for problems.
