Journal the_mad_poster's Journal: Oh boy, I've been blocked [UPDATEx3] 5

Due to excessive bad posting from this IP or Subnet, comment posting has temporarily been disabled. If it's you, consider this a chance to sit in the timeout corner . If it's someone else, this is a chance to hunt them down. If you think this is unfair, please email moderation@slashdot.org with your MD5'd IPID and SubnetID, which are "a00af35d5d623179ce57db595d19ffaf" and "ff6fe73e4e65e666452a14243a83badb" and (optionally, but preferably) your IP number "68.xx.xxx.xx" and your username "the_mad_poster".

Thanks, Taco. I wonder. At this rate, how long will it take before these dipshits manage to have every single IP out there blocked? It'll be "News For Nerds That Everyone's Blocked From".

The irony here is that I had a total moderation yesterday of +8 in stories.

Oh well, I'll look at this as an opportunity to go do something useful. Taco and friends can go sit on an actuator and spin. This has got to be the stupidest way to prevent trolling (which should be getting modded down anyway) I've evere seen.

UPDATE: Just to clarify, I'm not posting any trolls AC or anything. Anything I've posted and has gotten modded is on my Info page. I got a -2 Offtopic downmod a few days ago, but that's it. Someone must've been trolling from this Adelphia subnet which got me banned too. Either that, or one of the developers just doesn't like me. And, of course, remember that grub got blocked too not long ago for no apparent reason.

Look at it from this perspective: if these idiots were in charge of the legal system, they'd arrest the criminal and all the neighbors to make sure that everyone got the point.

In honor of my block, I have placed 'ads.osdn.com' in my HOSTS file to point to a blank image on localhost. I figure that if Slashdot thinks I should pay for someone else's trolls, then OSDN should pay for Slashdot's nonsense.

UPDATE 2: Just updated my .sig at grub's suggestion.

UPDATE 3: This is ridiculous. arb got nailed too.

Welcome to the club, my friend.

If you're a subscriber: do not renew.

Find another way to post and include a link to your relevent journal entry in your sig.

Don't quit bitching about it. The attitude "it's our site" fails to carry weight if they take donations/subscriptions.

For those friends of yours that haven't read my problem, Here you go. Same shit, different pile. [slashdot.org]

I'm posting this via ssh tunneled vnc to home. at least home is unblocked now

  • I tried to make an anonymous post in a front page story a couple of weeks ago, and got the message that anonymous posting had been disabled. I had made a couple of trollish posts in the previous month or so, but nothing significant. And no more than one or two downmods. I emailed them, and got the response that someone at this IP (which is shared by everyone at the company I work for) was trolling. I'm not sure that is true, but if I triggered this condition, the criteria mus be very sensitive.
  • ...I got blocked for a few weeks. I'm not sure what comment did it though. I tend to post the occasional semi-trollish post as AC. They blocked AC posts as well. I think it's just completely stupid that they do this. It doesn't stop the real trolls at all. Fortunately, I have four IP addresses at home, so I just started posting more civil posts from one of those. Still it doesn't change the fact that they are dilholes. To be honest, I think one of my anti-Pudge trolls is what got to someone.
  • running with arb [slashdot.org] lately? ;-)
  • So does this mean I'm next? Three people I'm used to seeing around here get muzzled?

Malda, if you're listening, you might want to consider using something other than blocked subnets. to keep abusers away. It works, but it keeps us out too, and some of us are paying you.
