Journal smooth wombat's Journal: A tsunami in 2807 B.C.? 1
A New York Times article (no reg required) is talking about what may be bad news for those of us on this little blue planet. If the group of scientists are correct, a meteor strike in 2807 B.C. created a tsunami which generated waves of a size only imagined in Hollywood movies. The waves were so big that the deposits of sediment they created are at least as tall as the Chrysler Building in New York City (925' without the antenna).
Why is this a bad thing, other than the obvious? Because if these deposits are the result of a large meteor strike, the conventional wisdom of the Earth being struck by large meteors every half million years or so drops to every few thousand years.
Nice article! (Score:2)
Nice. I dig this link. Thanks.
