  • Hmmm.... my write-in ploy has clearly failed.

    Back to the VoteMachine, boys!
  • Never knew your RL name before. All you need is a blonde chick, a sedan, and a river, and you could touch off the very geek-amusing Nandorgate...
  • Does that mean you got 111 write in votes? hrmmm
  • Congrats, pudge. Although i gotta say, Nandor sounds like the name of an inept super-villain. Maybe one from the He-Man universe. :)
    • Although i gotta say, Nandor sounds like the name of an inept super-villain.
Actually, I was thinking it sounded more like the name of one of the SNL 'conehead' aliens...
      • In case anyone cares, Nandor is a Hungarian/Slavic (yes, I know that they're not even close to the same, but the name somehow shows up in both cultures) and is a not common/not uncommon first name. Somewhere along the lines one of those rascally surname-first people switched cultures (probably Hungarian in origin and moved to a small town in current-day Slovakia). Incidentally, for a couple hundred years, Belgrade (literally "white fortress") USED to be called Nandor Fejervar (literally "Nandor's White Ca
        • I keep trying and failing to find out more about how the name Nandorfehervar came into being ... you ever find anything about who or what caused that name change? Almost every reference I find to it is that it was named that during a great battle that fought back the Turks, but not why it was named that.
          • I'm not sure that it's known. I know that Belgrade is full of white limestone. And I've seen some translations of fejervar being "white castle" or "white fort" (and of course Belgrade means "white city" or "white tower." So whoever Nandor was, the name change wasn't a large one - just a languange change and sticking his (okay, I'm assuming it's a he) name on it.

Congrats on that. Watch the debate earlier? I loved it. Despite a highly biased arbitrator, Bush most certainly came out ahead.
    • Besides being totally Off topic (Congrats, by the way, Pudge):

Bush most certainly came out ahead.

      Just what are you smoking?

Every face to face poll, every news organization, except CNN and CBC, called this for Kerry.

Did you actually watch the debates?

Bush was all over the place. The amount of dead air and the number of times he stumbled out "uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh" while trying to come up with even a semblance of a retort. The time he confused Osama with Hussien (indicative?). How about the

      • Kerry was ALL OVER. He said nothing of importance, and did he explain ANYTHING he was going to do? I heard a lot of vague promises: "Build a true coalition", "Secure russia in four years", "Pull our troops out ASAP"... All well and good, but HOW? Then he pulled out all this bull about lying to the public. He read the same reports, said the same things at the time. Further evidence might have proved some of the reports incorrect, but that's not lying, that's being misled.
And what the hell was it with Kerry
        • Does Karl Rove have his hand up your backside or what? You repeat Repub talking points like they actually mean something.

Bush added absolutely no substance. If you take "hard work" and "mexed missages" out of his side of the debate, your left with a lot of dead air and some pride that he could actually pronounce the name of the Polish President... now an ally whom he previously said had lied to us about weapons of mass destruction.... who's the freaking flip flopper there? Also, what was with the uh-uh

          • Why stop talking about the TALKING POINTS? Being strong and resolute is the WHOLE FUCKING IDEA! The terror-ists want TERROR, and by NOT FUCKING SUCKING OUR THUMBS we can show them who's boss.
            • Sorry man, you are way off base here. Whether you're in love with Bush or not, he did not come out of this well. Kerry most certainly did talk about a plan:

              1. Secure Russian nuclear holdings within 4 years.
              2. Create a REAL multi-national coalition to share in the responsibility of Iraq so that were aren't left shouldering almost the entire burden as we are now. I think driving the numbers of coalition participants home was a BIG slap in the face to the president's claim of any significant, cohesive working gro
              • I had the TV on the background while doing something else, so I only heard the debate for the most part. Given your comments, I'm now wishing I had watched. Sighing - particularly if it bore the air of arrogant entitlement to the office - was precisely one of the things that turned me off of Gore.

I'm fairly strongly in favor of Bush, as I was in 2000. But things like that shake me. Bush's humility in 2000 turned me on to him. If he did exactly as you describe, then he's a changed man to me, and 2000's

Which would include ... who? Not the Germans, not the French, not the Russians. Who is left?

Lock down the borders in Iraq and finish off battles like Fallujah rather than pulling back halfway through the fight.

Which is what we are doing now.

Increase funding for and work on "homeland security" initiatives to secure soft sites such as subways, dock
            • Reep talking points are the shovels by which it is digging itself into a hole. Keep using them... more debates like the one last night and they will sound even more hollow.

Don't you find it odd that Bush was on the defensive for most of the evening? He was supposed to give Kerry the sound beating. Bush, the "great debater" of stage and screen who used his wiley ways to pin Gore to the floor in 2000. Of course, that BS didn't jive with people who watch Bush, of the clever malipropisms, tring to speak

              • By the way, I've noticed that you seem a bit testy.

You're just a teenager aren't you? Nothing wrong with that... just wondering.

Can you even vote yet? Are you registered for selective service?

            Bush added absolutely no substance.

He added nothing *new* that you *liked*, you mean. Kerry added nothing new either, you just liked it.

Winning and losing the debate is stupid to even think about it. You can't keep score based on who scored the most points like some college debating competition, because it wasn't a real debate, and even if it were, the real winner is the one who wins the Presidency. We'll find out who won the debates in about a month.
            • We'll see.

Kerry did some classicaly good things like pulling Bush close to him during the handshake which showed their hieght difference (Taller candidates generally win). He looked better than Bush (people that saw the debate rather than heard it thought Kerry was the clear winner and found Bush to be weasely) calm and collected. It played well.

I also can't help, but think that your silence about the debates speaks volumes on how they went. If Bush had had a better showing, I'm sure you would have show

I also can't help, but think that your silence about the debates speaks volumes on how they went. If Bush had had a better showing, I'm sure you would have showcased it.

Think on. I was on a fishing Thursday night, and I still haven't even SEEN the debate.

                  Er, on a fishing TRIP.

I'll see it at some point, anyway. I just downloaded it for free from iTunes Music Store, too.
                • That would account for it. My error. Sorry.

I would suggest watching the CSPAN coverage if you can (also available online) as it split screened the whole thing. I thought split screen was against the rules, but every network violated that to some extent or another.

After watching the debates again. I agree with your feelings. The election will decide the winner. May the best man win.
  • Now, when are you running for national office? ;)

And as for the guys who didn't know your last name ... where've you guys been? It's not like it was a secret or anything.
