Journal pudge's Journal: Are You Registered? 37

If you are eligible to vote, are you registered to vote? And will you vote? If not to either, why not? Keep your answers as short as possible, please.

If you need help figuring out how to register, ask here and we'll try to help. Voting is important! Learn about the issues and candidates and vote, or I'll take away all your karma! ;-)

Are You Registered?

  • Anyone wishing to register to vote in Will County Illinois who is not registered can contact me, as I am a deputy voter registrar. email me at vlad@lrsehosting.com [mailto] and I will set up a time to either come to your home, or you can come to mine. I will give you details of what you need to bring with you when you email me.
  • Any place you register to vote in person in CA? I recently moved from N. Cal to S. Cal. I'm not sure if my request to be re-registered at my new address went through... (haven't gotten anything in the mail).

Contact your current county registrar of voters [ca.gov], and ask them if your registration is on file, and any other followup questions as necessary. Chances are you can go register at the registrar in person if it is too late to mail in a registration.
      • Out of curiosity, what is the (typical) deadline for registering? Here in Canada, you can register at the poll on election day with (several pieces of) appropriate ID.
        • It varies. In some states you can probably register within days, others it might be weeks. I don't know if any states allow you to register on the day of polling, and I don't know what is typical.
  • Able: Yes Registered: Yes (Libertarian) Going to Vote: Undecided on President, on locals definately. My vote is null regardless with Maryland's 65% Democrat Population (and you know I'm not voting for Kerry). If I vote, it'll be for the Libertarian or Constitution Party Candidates.

Yes, yes and yes. I have exercised my Constitutional right to vote on every election since turning 18.

  • Eligible: Yes
    Will vote: Yes
  • see subj.
  • I registered when I voted at the Minnesota primary.
I had forgotten to re-register after I moved - it's good to have that taken care of for the general election.
I will definitely be voting. 36 days to go...
  • Yes and yes.

Whenever someone starts complaining about what an incumbant on either side is doing, I always ask them if they voted. If the answer is no (and barring some big problem that prevented them), I kindly tell them to shut the hell up. :-)
    • But the problem, at least for federal elections, is the voting system. We shouldn't even be voting for president or senators. I attribute direct popular voting for those offices for much of the problems we face these days.

Some people, typically leftists, say we don't have enough democracy today. I say we have entirely too much.
  • yes and yes
  • I think I've missed three elections in twenty five years. I've recently moved though, so I need to find out to which polling place I need to report.

  • Everyone has to *earn* my vote.

  • I'm registered and going to vote.

I got (in the mail) a voter registration by mail. Says its from Laura Bush. I'm happy it came so I reregistered for my change-of-address.

Registered, permenent absentee (I vote by mail every election, very easy to do in WA)
I will damn sure be voting as well. With an AG's, Governor's, and Senate race as well as being in somewhat of a swing state I've got plenty of reasons to vote.

BTW I've also done some voter registration work as well. First as part of the Dean campaign, then for Kerry and various local Dems.

FYI if you are in Washington State you have until October 3rd to register by mail, after October 3rd you have to register in person at

  • I refuse to lend legitimacy to whoever wins this election. To vote, for either candidate, is to lend the entire charade an air of unearned legitimacy.

They can kiss my derriere :-p
    • There are a lot more things to vote for than just the Presidential candidates.
    • Did you mean ...

      a) Either Bush or Kerry will win the election; there's no getting around it. And since I don't think either one is qualified, I don't see any point to voting. I'd only lend an air of legitimacy to the election.

, or, b) Democracy is an immoral use of force. Some things should never be subject to a vote. Democracy fails to protect the rights of the minority from the tyranny of the majority. If I had my way I would execute zero force [isil.org] against anybody else. Taxes are wrong, even if we v

  • Registered and I will be voting for Bush, Rossi, and Nethercut. This is the first time I have ever registered to vote.
  • Eligible, registered, voting.
  • I am eligible, I am registered in the town I just moved to, though I have to figure out where my precinct votes (anybody know a place to look this up for Evansville, Indiana and surrounding counties?). I certainly plan on voting.
  • I am NRA.

    And I vote. :)

Yes, I'm registered. Yes, I vote - primarily because the older I get the more frustrated I become with politics. But also because my wife is a poli-sci major, she'd pitch a fit if I didn't vote.
  • I don't know really if I am registered, but I know I've been able to register and vote the day of the elections in the past just by walking in with proof of residency and WI driver's licence.

In any case, I made sure that I was able to vote in the primary a couple weeks back, just to be sure. There's a good possibility that I'm considered registered after that, or at very least, ready for registration when I walk in.
