Journal pudge's Journal: Question for fans of Gore, Kerry, Obama 5

I fully concede that Al Gore never said that he invented the Internet. It's a misinterpretation of what he he actually said, which was that he "took initiative in creating the Internet," that he took part in the legislative efforts to get it off the ground.

Many Democrats have bemoaned this "clear example" of conservative bias in the media, complaining that it's the media's job to debunk things like this, not continue to push them. And they feel it is their job, as citizens who love truth, to point out to us all -- every time a joke is made about it -- that it's a myth.

I basically agree with all of that (except for the "conservative bias" nonsense), and I have done my share in debunking the myth on occasion.

I've also devoted significant effort in correcting the myths that John Kerry ever opposed funding of our troops back in 2003/2004, and the various Obama/Muslim myths.

So perhaps those same Democrats who decry the perpetuation of those myths will join me in setting the record straight on some other persistent myths, for example:

the myth that John McCain ever said he doesn't know much about the economy

the myth that John McCain ever said he would keep troops in harm's way in Iraq for 100 years

the myth that John McCain did anything whatsoever wrong in the Keating scandal

There's more of course, but these would be a good start.

Democrats: will you join me in spreading truth about all candidates, not just the ones you like? Thanks in advance!

Question for fans of Gore, Kerry, Obama

  • I hate that out-of-context crap that both sides pull--less in the mainstream than in the blogs and chain e-mails. Frankly, there's enough to like and dislike about each candidate that's up front this run without having to resort to misquotes.

The economy thing, for example, is what I find the most troubling--he's said exactly two things on that, that boiled down to "I don't know the economy as well as I know military and foreign policy", and "I'm reading more on the economy, including Greenspan's book." Th

The fact he's not as good at the economy as his two strongest suits doesn't make him bad at it any more than I don't know anything about chemistry because I only got an A- in it instead of the straight As I got in math and physics. He can still be an economic scholar even if you disagree with his conclusions, which it's perfectly possible do do reasonably--same as Obama's positions.

Yes. Big "duh." Some people are just stupid and don't understand this, and some people are just dishonest and pushing what they know to be a lie.

Speaking of expertise, though, I don't think Obama is very good at his supposed area of expertise, constitutional law. His statements on the Second Amendment make me think that I know a lot more about the Constitution than he does. It's no myth that Obama said he was in favor of the DC gun ban, and that he then said he favored the decision that ruled it unconst

    • I actually like the out-of-context crap, and pull it all the time. But it's within my own group of peers and it's playful 'ribbing'.

Sort of like Ted Stevens whole 'tubes' thing. I understood what he was trying to do. I've tried explaining 'the interwebs' in laymans terms before. I sort of felt like people went a little far in belittling him. That being said the Daily Show bit on it was hysterical.

Yeah, when I first heard what Stevens said, I was thinking, "yeah, it kind of is like a series of tubes."

Though it is still funny to make fun of, but ... eh.

  • I'm also passing around "mccainfactcheck.com" and "obamafactcheck.com" in my e-mail signature. Between the two of them they pretty handily debunk with cites most of the e-mails/blogs from the woo-woo contingents of both sides.
