Burn Ban Proposed For King, Snohomish, and Pierce Counties

  • since i've moved to florida i sometimes see people burning stuff and it always amazes me. having grown up in arizona i'm just not used to the idea of having a fire in your yard. at our cabin in northern arizona we had to get our fire pit inspected and then we have to call and make sure that we can have a fire before we do. i know it is because of the climate and all - but it still is just funny to me that anyone would think of burning trash or having a camp fire in their yard as normal.

I've been around controlled yard burns most of my life. We had them in Massachusetts every year growing up, and in rural Washington.

    • I can't tell you how often burn piles are made in St. Cloud.

"What happens if we throw this in the fire?" is a question asked far too often for my taste.

I remember driving through Arizona and seeing the don't ash out your windows you stupid tourist signs and the no smoking anywhere in, near, or around the rest area signs.
      • yeah - just after I moved here, I'd see these huge pillars of smoke and I'd think "Wow- there must be something big burning down." and then I just realized it was them burning the heaps of crap they bulldoze into piles when they clear a chunk of land. Some of the piles out there off the 417 where the new UCF hospital will be were gigantic. Though I have to say I'll be glad when they get more of that developed and I don't have to drive so far to go places.

Oh and that's another thing ... they do not ban many commercial burns. They do ban the kind you're talking about, but not many others, including forestry and agricultural burns, and recreational burns, all of which are far more of a problem than residential yard burns.

Gravity brings me down.
