Journal pudge's Journal: New Amendments 9

The push to have the Equal Rights Amendment is revived. It states, simply, "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex."

I propose another new amendment: "The right to say anything you want shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State."

In case you don't get my point: the 14th Amendment already includes the Equal Rights Amendment. The ERA is totally unnecessary.

  • Much like the 21st amendment:

    Section 1.
The seventeenth article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed.

    Section 2.
Article I, Section 3 of the Constitution of the United States is restored in full.

    Section 3.
This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by conventions in the several States, as provided in the Constitution, within seven years from the date of the submission hereof to the States by the Congress.
    • I think we should repeal the 19th amendment.

That'll solve the "gender gap" in politics quite nicely.

(The above post was entirely sarcastic in nature.)

The 21st Amendment repealed the 18th Amendment, not the 17th. The 17th Amendment provides for direct popular election of senators (and ought to be repealed, as it drastically weakened the influence of the states on the central government). The 18th Amendment (combined with the Volstead Act) implemented Prohibition.

Um. I know that. Re-read my post. I propose an amendment MUCH LIKE the 21st -- one that repeals the 17th.

          Um. I know that.

Yeah...I realized that a few minutes after I posted. /. needs "edit/delete my post" options.

  • The courts decide what they all mean anyway. The 15th cannot be invoked by a white guy for example.

In this day and age, I'm just impressed that anyone can even spell "amendment." So many people seem to think it is "ammendment."

      • I actually had to go look it up real quick thinking you were correcting my spelling. *phew* I got it right. ;)
