Journal: Uptime

Journal by pmsyyz

I'm about to reboot my computer before I leave town for a couple weeks.

System Up Time: 88 Days, 10 Hours, 26 Minutes, 46 Seconds

I'm running Windows Server 2003 as my desktop OS. I can tell there is plenty of leaked memory I need to free. But I think it has lasted this long because I only run certain applications these days: Firefox, VLC, foobar2000, X-Chat, Azureus, etc.

I've been meaning to switch to Linux for a couple years. Converting the filesystem of my terabyte+ of hard drives is the main holding me back, I think. I don't really play games anymore, though it is nice to have the option.

Journal: Glasses

Journal by pmsyyz

I grabbed by snail mail from my mailbox as I headed to work at 0520 this morning. Included was my first ever pair of glasses. They are just for my slight nearsightedness. I was tired of far away things being a bit blurry. The frame is black. I'll post a photo on Flickr.

Reuters: Playboy May Entice Value Investors

It enticed me last week. I had been watching PLA for some time. I was thinking I would buy some shares if it dipped below $10. I looked at it last week and it was almost at $8. I used all the cash I had on hand to buy 250 shares at $8.30. It rose almost six and a half percent today.

I own three other stocks: PIXR, TRMB, and GRMN. Garmin is not doing well for me, but the others are. fRy said his company uses Trimble equipment and that no other company makes that type of equipment.

Security

Journal: Class wraps up soon; Good books

Journal by pmsyyz

Only two more days of class remain in the Computer Security Management/ISSM course that I am attending at Keesler AFB. We will be through this Wednesday and I'll drive three hours north to Madison for not quite two days of respite before I hit the road again to head back to Colorado Springs.

It was good to see Jim and Ed while I was down here.

As I didn't bring a computer with me, I had time to read several books while I was here. The most wonderful of which was The Integral Trees (wikipedia) by Larry Niven. I need to find the sequel, The Smoke Ring.

He said his firm does not send spam but blamed a rival firm which he said routes much of their unsolicited bulk e-mail through Russia and eastern Europe. Mackay said such firms gave a bad name to the penis enhancement business.

APL hackers do it in the quad.
