Boy oh boy. Things are more then a little tense in my life these days and I guess that it's coming through. I think that I've posted more harsh, pissed off comments on /. in the past week then I have in any other two or three months. Of course, /. being what it is, I'm getting moderated up for my nastiest stuff.
Confooosed. Much confooosed.
Oh, btw, while my finances continue to be something out of Down and out in Paris and London, the rest of the stress is good stuff. Anxiety about important decisons to make, not about lack of options. Things like new gigs to schedule or promising deals to follow up on. Just got me on edge, that's all.
BTW, I'm curious, what is the consensus out there on the phrase "bitch-slapped"? I find it annoying that this is both one of the most appallingly sexist things I've ever heard in my life while simultaneously the first locution that I am aware of with the particular implication of thwapping somebody in a metaphorical sense who has gotten way beyond themselves.
Replacements, please? Better ways to say the same thing without encouraging deeply fucked up gender attitudes? I hope? Somebody?
Confooosed again,
Rustin

  • I can't think of a good replacement, so why don't you just rid the phrase of gender specificity. Start using the word "bitch" in a gender neutral manner. When you think you want to say "asshole" or a related phrase, use "bitch" instead. Break those gender barriers! :)
  • More words than the ever quick "bitch slap" and less threat of violence but I think it gets to the heart of the matter. Its as dismissive as it gets.

Though still gender specific, its less hateful.

    Good? Bad? Crappy?
Hmmm, I guess I'll come back after I've shaved...
  • Well, I believe that 'bitch slap' comes from gangsta rap, referring to when a pimp 'slaps a bitch' to get her in line. The phrase is meant to convey a diminished status and position in the person being slapped. Because it is only two syllables, it's going to be a tough phrase to replace.

As far as being broke, I'll just mention my MLM. Profit in 30 days. Not a lot, but every little bit helps.
