Wii to sellout despite 1.8 million made each month->

Submitted by
Wowzer
Wowzer writes "Despite 1.8 million Wii being manufactured each month, Wii's are said to sell out anyway. To quote Nintendo's President: "I can't guarantee that we're going to meet demand. As a matter of fact, I can tell you on the record that we won't." You might want to buy a Wii early if you want one under the Christmas tree, considering Nintendo started boosting the production output during the three months ending June 30, 2007. Additionally, in a Fox TV interview with Alexis Glick, Nintendo's President Reggie Fils-Aime confirmed the Wii would not be lowered in price."

World of Warcraft 2.3, Zul'Aman and the Lich King

Submitted by
ajs
ajs writes "World of Warcraft isn't the same game that it was even just six months ago, and it's changing again with the announcement of the upcoming changes in version 2.3. The major updates this year have been the release of Burning Crusade (the game's first expansion); the 2.1 patch which modified every class and trade skill and improved spam-prevention; and now 2.3 which is updating the player-vs-player battlegrounds, adding a new raid dungeon called Zul'Aman and "reviewing" every class for game balance in preparation for the release of Wrath of the Lich King "soon", as Blizzard is fond of saying. 2.3 looks to be clearing the way for the raised level cap (to 80) in Lich King as well, by increasing the rate at which new players can level from 20 to 60, and adding over 60 new quests to the middle of that range."

Guilty verdict in music file-sharing case

Submitted by an.echte.trilingue
an.echte.trilingue writes "CNN is reporting that the RIAA has managed to win in court. From the story "In the first such lawsuit to go to trial, the record companies accused Thomas of downloading the songs without permission and offering them online through a Kazaa file-sharing account. Thomas denied wrongdoing and testified that she didn't have a Kazaa account.[...]

During the three-day trial, the record companies presented evidence they said showed the copyrighted songs were offered by a Kazaa user under the name "tereastarr." Their witnesses, including officials from an Internet provider and a security firm, testified that the Internet address used by "tereastarr" belonged to Thomas.""

Learn from Ron Paul, Internet Icon-> 1

Submitted by
vsync64
vsync64 writes "Ben Worthen at the Wall Street Journal has an article today about how people are starting to realize, thanks to Ron Paul, that the Internet can help unpublicized causes, but that there's not a magic “Internet” button they can push and get buzz: “‘We're using the same tried and tested social networking tools as all the other campaigns,’ [says] Jesse Benton[....] They're just doing it really really effectively. The campaign uses these networks to get its message out quickly, but Benton says that the campaign is careful not to try to manage what Paul's supporters do and say. Also, the campaign uses the Internet to engage with its biggest supporters directly.” Apparently talking to your supporters and treating them as people with their own opinions is the latest fad."

Copy Protection Backfires on Blu-ray 378

Posted by Zonk
from the won't-wait-two-minutes-for-a-movie dept.
An anonymous reader writes "The first two Blu-ray releases to hit the market encrypted with BD+ (an extra layer of protection designed to stave off hackers) are wreaking havoc on innocent consumers. As High-Def Digest reports, this week's Blu-ray releases of 'Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer' and 'The Day After Tomorrow' won't play back at all on at least two Blu-ray players, while load times on other players (including the PS3) are delayed by up to two minutes. 'The most severe problems have been reported on Samsung's BDP-1200 and LG's BH100, which are both said to be incapable of playing back the discs at all. Less catastrophic issues (error messages and playback stutter) have been reported for Samsung's BDP-1000. The discs appear to play back fine on all other Blu-ray players ... Calls placed to both Samsung and LG customer support revealed that both manufacturers are aware of the issue, and that both are working on firmware updates to correct it. Samsung promised a firmware update within 'a couple' weeks, while LG said an update is expected in 3-4 days.'"
