We don't need AI to find out about chemicals used in WW I. Unless you think Ai is just a good search engine.

Trust me. Ain't nobody gonna use AI to develop no stinkin' chemical weapons. Or, at least, any new ones. As far as I can tell, AI isn't doing too well at figuring out chemistry. And, speaking as a chemist, the data that one might use to train AI on chemistry and biology is already pretty highly corrupted on its own, thank you.

I'd still be using NT if I could. Every iteration is worse. Well, not quite. Vista was particularly bad. But the trend is very much a grinding enshitification.

Medicinal chemist here. This is such deep bullshit, I can't even figure out where to start.

I'm an older chemist. I'm seeing little to no advancement of what I do, medicinal chemistry, from AI. Translating chemistry from the literature into a real notion of how chemistry behaves isn't happening. I know, AlphaFold, right? No. AlphaFold was a beautiful application of AI, to solving a fairly bound problem using a very large, highly curated data set (the pdb). Most chemistry is a lot messier. I'll keep watching, but right now it seems that we're gonna have to keep chemists around, though we've largely decided that they will reside outside the US in the future.

I wrote something on Reddit once in an economics subreddit, questioning the value of BitCoin. I got the most severe flaming I've ever experienced. It got copied to the BitCoin subreddit where I got flamed even hotter.

I'm an organic chemist. I've worked in drug discovery for 45 years. It's hard. Jeff Bezos ain't nowhere close to figuring it out. I don't know about the other parts, but I know for sure the drug discovery stuff is bullshit.

I'm a medicinal chemist and have been for 45 years. I also tend to vote fairly liberally, though the leftists thought police were beginning to get on my nerves. Anyhow, my feeling is that glyphosate is probably a lot safer than anything that we try to replace it with, that works as well. When anything has been used as much a glyphosate and the only people sure of it's toxicity are lawyers, then you've got a pretty safe agent. Go to Lowe's hardware and get a container of new Roundup and read the label. The new stuff in there is surely more toxic than glyphosate and is more chemically kin to Agent Orange and paraquat. Be careful what you ask for here. Oh yeah, I kind of feel the same way about methylene chloride.
