Journal jawtheshark's Journal: Mobilux Open 14

You might recall that my brother is a bus driver. This week (from monday till sunday included) he has been assigned to drive on of the two shuttles to a tennis event called Mobilux Open. I just talked to him and he said that in the three days that the event has been going on, he has not yet seen a *single* customer! (Customer is a big word, since the shuttles are free!) Yeah, folks, two busses drive each 15 minutes to that event and nobody takes them.

This is a complete waste of resources, and my brother is completely frustrated. Understandable, he feels as if his services are not needed (which seems to be true in this context) and on top of that the only distraction my brother has in the day are the customers.

One would think that it's mainly due to the fact that people prefer to take their cars.... That's not the problem: there is just nobody going to that event. My brother talked to someone involved with the organisation of this event, and there are 20 spectators maximum. I'm betting it's the family of the players. Must be frustrating to be a tennis player in that event too.

  • He can kick back in his bus and Listen to loud driving music , I assume he is paid anyway .
So he gets paid , doesn't need to deal with Pain in the arse customers and can kick back and just have a pleasant drive
  • To a native English-speaker "Mobilux" sounds like an event for "mobile unix" products e.g. Linux and BSD on cell phones, PDAs and laptops.

    • Funny.... I'm so used of seeing the -lux postfix in about everything that I just didn't see that one coming. You're right of course... :-) However, I think you should specify more closely: a native English Geek/Nerd would see it that way. Non-Nerds/Geeks will definately make no association with *nix. :-)

  • It`s still quite something.. not much, but it`s atleast something..

I`m guessing this is one of the lower ranking tournaments that is still in 'startup' mode.. aiming for more sponsorship and higher ranked players, but still failing at actually breaking into the pro tour..

speaking fo which.. the number of tennis events is seriously going to drop in the next year in the pro tour, so these events will probably get a lot more sponsorship and tennis talents..

sorry about your brother and his dull days though.. bu
  • Tennis is the ONE sport I can watch on telly or in the stands. Everything else I hate.
