  • I haven't bothered going in to Central Park to have a look. Doesn't seem that impressive. Anyone here overwhelmed by it?
  • You should check out Richard's [slashdot.org] journals to this effect. He helped install them.

    Personally I am not at all impressed by the project. Seems kind of like a waste of time and materials. It would be impressive just because of the sheer scale of the project.... but the utility of the project is... lacking. But that is art.

    • I am in complete agreement, and yeah, I've been reading his journals about it. It sounds like he's gotten a lot out of it, and that's very cool.

      I don't so much care about utility as I care about whether or not the aesthetic appeals to me. I love Dali, Monet, Van Gogh, and actually a lot of the abstract artists in painting. I like modern sculpture of the "blob" school (note my complete lack of education on the matter :-). I am not so entranced by modern sculpture of the "girder" school, and this seems st

        I tell you what: set a half dozen orange hunters' vests up on manequins halfway between the crackers and the gates in that same field of view and it would be PERFECT.

      • Well, I don't mean to sound like I'm railing against it. By all means, it's not ugly, and there are much worse things to do with those resources :-)
      • I guess part of the appeal of the artists is that he project only stays up for a short finite span and then is gone. The point of bringing together lots of people to create the project is also another part of the project that I find contains meaning. The common goals, teamwork, communication, etc is worthwhile even if the end results is temporary.
