well it could have been worse.

I think 2 out of the 4 get it the other 2 maybe not so much.

I got a LAMP head so we'll be doing some of that which should make things funnerer.

They actually have 256 IPs from their ISP and they actually use them. It's very 1996, we'll be changing that. Plus the whole DHCP thing... they need to be doing that. There are far too many Win98 machines they must be destroyed and Windows XP is the ONLY option... sorry gang I can only do so much.

This is going to be good. I think not turning wrenches will be OK. I think. It's scary when people just want my brain and expect me to delegate.

You know in a lot of ways I'm a Sys Admin. I touch things. I fix them, monitor them, improve them. This is different. I hope I can get it.

  • I know _exactly_ what you're speaking about.

    A word of advice: don't be afraid to ruffle feathers. If you need to fire someone because they're not with the team and not willing to participate, do so. You'll save yourself a lot of headache in the future.

    Also, when you say that they're using an entire class C, that only says one thing to me, that they lack a firewall protecting workstations. Fix this!

    Seriuosly though, what crack-head came up with a design which puts 200-odd Windows PC's right on the internet, probably without any sort of firewall? And Win-98 to boot? I realize that these things tend to grow organically, but man that network sounds like it's in serious need of arson. I wish you the best of luck in taming it, you're gonna need it.
