I spent Thanksgiving Day with my brother's family in Morgan Hill. My nephew and his girlfriend are expecting a child in July 2007. This is the first child in my immediate family in almost three decades and the baby excitement is just getting started. Since my nephew was born on New Year's Day and his girlfriend was born on Labor Day, they are hoping for the baby to be born on the Fourth of July. I think the men folk -- all harden baseball and football fans -- horrified the mother-to-be by planning an elaborate tailgate party in the hospital parking lot after the dinner was over. I spent Black Friday working out at the gym first thing in the morning and cooking my own 18-pound turkey that I got for $6 USD to freeze the meat to eat later on. I skipped the entire shopping scene as I was already virtually stampeded at Amazon. Tried getting a Nintendo Wii when it first came out but they were gone in the first minute. Tried getting an XBox 360 Core System for $100 USD but it took ten minutes for the web page to load up to announced that all 1,000 units were gone. I haven't had this much fun since the early 1980s when my mother got into a fist fight with another mother to get a Cabbage Patch Kids doll for my niece.
The navigation for the News Archive section was revamped as part of a mini programming project for this weekend. It was a bit odd getting back into the code as school and writing been my focus for the last three months. The website got started as a showcase for my game design that went nowhere as working in the video game industry for six years killed my enthusiasm for doing anything with video games in my off hours. (I can now enjoy video games since I haven't worked in the industry for almost three years.) Since I'm working hard on becoming a published writer in 2007, the website has mutated into a blog of sorts with 31 posts for this year. All that content must be broken down into pages to make it easier for readers to view, and the programming trick is to maintain backward compatibility to avoid breaking the links from other pages. I have no intention of adding on or replacing the website with a blogging package since the website is still my ongoing programming project as I learn programming at school. I plan to make more changes during the winter break.
