Journal blinder's Journal: GMontag Please Report! 3

Montag! We need our reports! We need to know:

1. how many abandon cars you found
2. how much snow fell
3. detailed analysis of driving conditions

Heh, really man, I need your reports on days like this!

All I know is, here in Ballmer-land we got around 6" or so (sure glad they lowered the estimates last night at the 11 o'clock news yeah, original estimate was for 4-8" then lowered to 3-5"). Naturally the entire town of Whitemarsh was left... well, white... I suppose. Oh yeah, that got Franklin Sq. Blvd... after all, there is a freakin hospital up there... but everything else... snow covered.

I have to complain here tho. I used to live in Syracuse, NY for many years (8). Now, I loath Syracuse and all that is Upstate New York. But... one thing they did well, was clear ALL roads. Not just major roads. We used to live out in the middle of no where (yeah, ha ha, everywhere is the middle of no where) but damn if we EVER had to wonder when the plows would be by... and also, if my estimations are right, with LESS equipment.

I dunno, I could have it all wrong, and I'm just being unreasonable... but still man.

Tomorrow is when the fun starts... or even this evening. The ice. Ah yes, the lovely ice. Damn shame I don't have my hockey skates any more.

oh yeah, and this tid bit... anyone in the Ballmer area lemme axe ya dis... is it me or is Marty Bass (channel 13) getting more and more... belligerent and well, just annoying? I fully expect to see him tomorrow morning there, reclining with a Natty Bow and a spitting out his completely-off-base weather predictions and acting "frank" and "direct" with the spokespeople of DPW and the State Police. Marty: you look and sound like a fool. Wise up my friend.

  • So the washingtonpost had this great article about the snow. Ice shouldn't be a problem knocking down power lines, Metro will run diesel trains with plows all night, DC,MD, and VA have crews at the ready, 6 inches won't kill us.
It was as if all the horror of last year had finally prepared us: We would combat this snow/winter-mix!!!

But I guess this article was just practice for the Booker Prize in fictional prose... because Maryland don't know what the FUCK is going on.

  • Bob Turk is the man IMHO.

I live out in Frederick now, I used to live in Towson back when I went to York road U: Towson State [towson.edu]. And in Hereford prior to that. It seems that in Maryland, where ever you are, the drivers are all the same. Some cruise at, or above, the posted speed limits with snow covered roads. Some creep along, extra slowly, pissing off the speeders.

We got 5 or 6", and roads are ok out here. I went in to work, no big deal.

It is the expected 1/4" of ice that worries me tonight.

    Nat
