Journal Short Circuit's Journal: AoR: Fire Elementals
Ralek and Voltore are standing in back in the arena, they chose the 1000 gold level, looking for a challenge. And there the challenge stood, 50 feet away: Two fire elementals, one a deep red, the other a burning white. Flames danced viciously up and down their arms, and their eyes shone out like black coals.
The plan is thus; Voltore would fire his shortbow at one, while Ralek would attempt to draw the other away for hand-to-hand combat.
This is going to be interesting, Ralek thought. He circles around 30 feet to the left, and casts Endure Elements, to protect himself from fire. Voltore circles around 30 feet to the right, draws his bowstring, and lets fly.
The arrow embeds itself in the white fire elemental's shoulder. The creature quickly pulls the arrow out, and tosses it to the ground, where it lay, smoldering. He glares at Voltore. The red elemental keeps an eye on Ralek.
"Hey!" Ralek shouts to his fiery audience, "Your mother was a candle, and your father was a stick. They met their fate in the bottom of a glass of ale!" Getting no reaction, he licked his fingers and pretended to put out a candle.
That did it. The red elemental he had been taunting charged at him, but Ralek was ready for him, nimbly--for a dwarf--dodging the elemental's stone knife.
Meanwhile, the white elemental charges Voltore, leaving little footprints of glowing dirt. He got within a few feet, but tripped and landed prone in front of the dwarf. Voltore grabs his axe and makes a powerful swing downward, but the elemental rolls to avoid it. Voltore checks, and swings again, catching the elemental full across the back with his axe. The elemental screams, and liquid white fire pours down its back.
Ralek and the red elemental dance viciously, testing and swinging at each other.
The white lands a solid hit on Voltore, setting him on fire. Now trying to both put out a fire and dodge blows, Voltore is unable to land another hit with his axe.
The red elemental nimbly dodges Ralek's swing, and lands a solid hit, slicing Ralek's arm, and setting his armor on fire, which a quick slap puts out.
Voltore swings, but loses his balance, coincidentally causing him to avoid a second swing by the white elemental.
Ralek swings wildly, but gets sliced again by the opportunistic elemental.
Voltore's axe cracks down on the elemental's skull with finality. The elemental falls to the ground, dead. Within seconds, his glow changes from bright white to a tame yellow, to a dull orange. Within minutes, it will be nothing more than a porous chunk of hot iron slag.
Ralek casts Cure Light Wounds, and his cuts heal. Still a little stiff, he's unable to dodge the elemental's next attack, which leaves a gash in his forehead.
Voltore joins the fray, but the elemental manages to avoid his attack. Ralek siezes the moment to make a solid hit. A portion of the elemental's shoulder turns from deep red to a bright yellow. The elemental wildly returns, but Ralek ducks the swing.
Ralek again casts Cure Light Wounds, and again his cuts heal, along with some of the burns. The elemental slashes Ralek again with the knife, but only manages a relatively minor cut. Still, I can't take much more of this, Ralek thinks to himself. He curses as the elemental manages do dodge an attack by Voltore.
Ralek and the elemental exchange near-misses, but Voltore comes up from behind and catches the elemental across the back, leaving a bright yellow streak dribbling blood that causes the air itself to burn.
Ralek follows with a hard blow to the elemental's chest, leaving another glowing welt. The elemental attempts a return strike, but loses his balance and falls to the ground. Seizing the opportunity, both Ralek and Voltore deliver crushing or slicing blows. The elemental is now a glowing mass of yellow and white, nearly dead.
The elemental desperately lunges, and manages to plunge his hot knife deep into Ralek's chest. Ralek collapses, and the elemental stands over him for a moment, dripping burning blood on Ralek's armor. A moment later, the elemental is dead, an axe buried in his back.
Ralek drifts towards the edge of the arena. leaving Voltore and two dead elementals behind. I may not get the reward, Ralek dreamily thinks, but, damn, that was a good fight.
Note...this is almost exactly how it went down. I was able to recover 99% of the second recording by using a highpass filter at around 1KHz. Thanks to anyone and everyone who looked into the issue for me.
